Bayern Munich entertained Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena earlier today hoping to win and consolidate their position at the top of the Bundesliga standings. The home team made a dominant start to the game and took the lead in the 17th minute via Leon Goretzka’s acrobatic finish from close range. Thomas Muller doubled his side’s advantage just four minutes before half-time when he found the back of the net with a controlled strike.
Roberto Lewandowski managed to get his name on the scoresheet early in the second half via a well-placed header. However, Frankfurt came back from the dead courtesy of two quick-fire goals from Martin Hinteregger.
Alphonso Davies put some daylight between the two teams when he scored with a right-footed finish in the 61st minute. Just 13 minutes later, Hingeregger netted an unfortunate own goal which made the victory all but secured for the Bavarian giants. The match ended with Hans-Dieter Flick’s players running away with an entertaining 5-2 win over the Hesse-based outfit.
Let’s take a look at how each Bayern Munich player performed during the contest versus Frankfurt.
GK: Manuel Neuer – 6/10
The German goalie began the match slowly and ended up conceding two goals in the second half. However, he did make a good save to deny Mijat Gaćinović in the 68th minute, which kept his side’s healthy advantage intact.
RB: Benjamin Pavard – 7/10
The French full-back made an excellent sliding block midway through the first 45 minutes. He also got into some promising positions in the Frankfurt half but lacked the cutting edge in the decisive moments.
CB: Jerome Boateng – 5.5/10
Boateng looked like he was carrying an injury, and it was evident in his performance today. He had a couple of sloppy moments and was forced off the field as a precaution ahead of the crucial encounter versus Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
CB: David Alaba – 6/10
The Austrian didn’t do too much wrong in the game but would be disappointed about conceding two goals in the second half. Alaba had a few bright moments going forward and even managed to test Kevin Trapp with a stinging effort before the half-time break.
LB: Alphonso Davies – 8.5/10
The Canadian starlet was a constant menace for the Frankfurt defenders on the left flank. He performed his defensive duties well and managed to secure a goal and an assist during the 90 minutes. It was a man of the match-winning display from him today.
CM: Thomas Muller – 8/10
The German attacker set-up Goretzka with a decent pass in the 17th minute before scoring himself with a clever finish just before half-time. Like a fine wine, it seems like the 30-year-old is only getting better with age.
CM: Joshua Kimmich – 7.5/10
He was always looking to create some decent goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates going forward. Kimmich was also quite threatening from dead-ball situations.
CM: Leon Goretzka – 7.5/10
The German scored with a brilliant acrobatic finish in the 17th minute and probably should have netted another one during the game. He was also not shy about doing his defensive duties at the back.
RW: Kingsley Coman – 7/10
He picked out Lewandowski with an inviting cross early in the second half which put Bayern up by three goals. Coman worked hard but needs to be more decisive in the final third.
ST: Robert Lewandowski – 7.5/10
The Polish striker had plenty of chances to register a goal in the first 45. Fortunately, he buried an early opportunity after the half-time break that put Bayern in a commanding position to go on and claim all three points from the game.
LW: Ivan Perisic – 6/10
The Croatian winger had a couple of decent chances to score, but he couldn’t come up with a finishing touch up top. He was substituted just after the hour mark.
Substitutes:
LW: Serge Gnabry – 7/10
His pace caused a lot of problems for the opposition. The former Arsenal speedster forced Hingeregger into making a mistake in the lead-up to Frankfurt’s own goal in the 74th minute.
CB: Lucas Hernandez – 6/10
He came off the bench to see out the victory for the home side.
RW: Joshua Zirkzee – N/A
He did not have enough time to make an impact.
CM: Mickaël Cuisance – N/A
He came on to run the clock down for Munich.
