Ferran Torres has caught the attention of the football world with his style in the past couple of seasons playing for Valencia. This has prompted several top clubs of Europe to take notice of the winger, and now offers are pouring in for this youngster.
The Athletic (subscription needed) are reporting that Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid could engage themselves in a bidding war for the winger and the talks for renewal of his contract, which is said to expire next summer, has stalled.
The rise of Ferran Torres
The Spaniard joined Valencia at a very early age and has since played at different levels for the club. He made his first-team debut in 2017 playing in a cup competition, and since then he has not had to look behind. In the three seasons that he has been with the team, Torres has made 62 league appearances for the side, scoring six times.
This 2019-20 season has seen him be a regular in the squad and take a place as one of the leading creative forces behind the team. Torres has represented Spain at different youth levels, and at this rate, he is expected to make his country proud in the near future.
The strengths and weaknesses of Torres
Standing at 184cm, the aerial ability of the youngster is breathtaking. Any team in the league would be blessed to have a man with such precision of heading. The other quality that needs to be mentioned about the Spaniard is his holding ability of the ball. His creative prowess and capability to take on opposition defenders are also some of his greatest virtues.
However, one area that the Valencia man could improve on is his crossing skills, which would be a requirement for him if he wants to ply his trade at Barcelona. His work-rate could also get better, and with time and age, he would undoubtedly make a lot more defensive contributions than he does today.
Do Barcelona need him?
The Catalans would be incredibly blessed to have a talented youngster like Torres, and they could groom him to be a world-beater someday. While Dembele had been brought into the side with a lot of expectations, his performances have not met those standards.
In this regard, Torres could be an ideal replacement for the French player and Barcelona would not have to think about the right-wing slot for a long time with him in the side. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Messi and Suarez would only make Torres a better player, and with time, he could be the principal creative spark in the team.
