According to a recent report by the Daily Record, Premier League giants Arsenal are said to be the betting favourites to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer. The report suggests that the Gunners’ current odds on signing the forward stand at 5/2, owing to the flurry of bets that arrived over the last week, amounting to 51 percent of all the money that was spent. Fellow European contender Manchester United are said to be behind in second place, with their current odds reading 6/1.
The report goes on to suggests that Neil Lennon insisted he would do everything possible to ensure that the talented French forward doesn’t depart the Parkhead club this season. With the Hoops, just one more title away from their record-breaking tenth straight one, Lennon understands that his presence would be a massive boost and that retaining Odsonne Edouard is the highest priority for Celtic. It is claimed that high-flying English side Leicester City are also in the race for the striker’s services, with Brendan Rodgers touted to make a £30m bid for the Frenchman this summer.
How Well Did Odsonne Edouard Do For Celtic Last Season?
The 22-year-old was far and away the best striker in the Premiership for the entirety of the campaign, and that was demonstrated with his stellar goal tally of 21. When compared to some of the other top strikers in the league, it’s safe to say that nobody even comes close in terms of individual scoring numbers, with both Jermaine Defoe and Alfredo Morelos more than a dozen goals behind. Not only has the forward found the back of the net in important fixtures, but he’s also contributed to a lot of his teammates’ goals.
With 12 assists to his name from 27 league outings, it’s worth mentioning that the Frenchman is extremely unselfish in his attacking play. Formerly of PSG, the forward arrived at Parkhead back in the summer of 2018 and has gradually developed into the most important member of the Celtic squad. The attacker scored a further five goals across the two European competitions they participated in this season as well.
What Does Edouard Bring To The Table For Lennon’s Side?
The forward boasts excellent predatory instincts when in and around the box, and finishing is undoubtedly one of the youngster’s most admirable strengths. Capable of changing the course of a game with just a single moment of brilliance, the Frenchman can poach a goal from three yards just as well as he can fire in a long-range belter.
The 22-year-old possesses all the qualities required to become a top European striker. Given the rate at which he’s progressing, it must be conceded that a move away from Celtic Park could be an inevitability.
Keeping Odsonne Edouard Is The Highest Priority For Celtic: Lennon Must Convince Him To Stay
With the Parkhead club aiming for an unprecedented tenth consecutive Premiership title next season, keeping Edouard in Glasgow would have to be treated with the utmost importance by the club. The prospect of making history with a club that already has an abundance of it in the bag could be enough to keep the Frenchman for another season. However, with sides like Arsenal and Manchester United thrown into the equation, Lennon will do well to ensure that the former PSG man stays in Scotland next season.
