According to a recent report by Metro, Villarreal’s Nigerian international winger Samuel Chukwueze has recently revealed during an Instagram Live that his favourite team in England is Frank Lampard’s Chelsea. The report suggests that the winger has had an affection for the London club since a young age and that they’re still his preferred outfit in the Premier League. Liverpool were said to be interested in signing the Nigerian in January but were seemingly put off by the €60m price tag that slapped on his head.
A Daily Mail report claimed in February that Liverpool would face competition from the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea for the speedster’s signature. Recent comments for the Villarreal man though, clearly seem to put the Blues in the driving seat. During the Instagram Live, the winger is quoted to have said, “My favourite team in England is Chelsea. I was supporting Chelsea when I was young. When Chelsea lost that Champions League final against Manchester United (in 2008), I was crying all through the night.”
What Makes Samuel Chukwueze An Attractive Prospect For Chelsea?
Nigerian international winger Samuel Chukwueze has managed to make quite the name for himself in the Spanish top-flight over the last couple of seasons, and it’s not surprising at all that some of the most aspiring clubs in the world are being linked with his signature.
For starters, having been born in 1999, the youngster would fit perfectly into the system that Frank Lampard is trying to build at Chelsea. Despite his tender age though, the speedster tends to display excellent maturity as well as collectedness while on the pitch.
A right-winger by position, the Nigerian is capable of operating anywhere across the front-line, which will surely be a massive boost to Chelsea. The acquisition of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax indicates that versatility is a criterion that Lampard has set, and Chukwueze would hence fit that bill. Not shy about making lung-busting runs at any point in a match, the Villarreal man can beat any defender in the world for pace on his day, while the tricks and flicks come as an added advantage.
It must be conceded that the youngster’s contributions in front of goal do need to improve, but considering that he would be joining a group of sensational talents at Chelsea, he’s sure to improve as a player post the move. The La Liga starlet’s 23 league outings yielded just three goals and three assists until the season was brought to a halt, while at 20-years-old, the Villarreal man has already got 13 international caps to his name with two goals to show for his efforts as well.
Why Chelsea Must Sign Chukwueze This Summer?
The Nigerian international speedster is one of the most exciting talents in the La Liga right now, and the fact that he’s a boyhood Chelsea fan could work perfectly in the Blues’ favour. The London club have been on the lookout for high-potential youngsters over the last couple of transfer windows, and the addition of Chukwueze would fit that trend perfectly. With the futures of players like Willian and Pedro still up in the air, it would be smart on Lampard’s part to invest in a player that is sure to come good soon.
