According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in the services of Fabio Silva. The FC Porto teenager has raised a lot of eyebrows this season and has been courted by a host of top clubs across Europe, including Spurs. The Lilywhites are already looking for a long-term replacement for Harry Kane, with Silva being one of the options.
Who is Fabio Silva?
A product of the FC Porto youth academy, Silva was promoted to the first-team last summer. Unlike his fellow countryman, Joao Felix, he is yet to make an impact in Liga NOS. But, the young forward is regarded as one of the rising stars in Portuguese football.
Silva has made nine appearances for FC Porto this season, scoring just one goal. However, eight of those appearances came as a substitute, with the attacker mustering a total of only 147 minutes of league football.
A centre-forward by trade, Silva’s style of play can be compared to Felix. Despite his relatively tall frame of 1.85m, the 17-year-old is known for his dynamism. He has exceptionally quick feet that are combined with pace and a dose of physicality – making him a well-rounded number nine.
Another key feature in Silva’s game is his vision. The FC Porto starlet has the ability to not only find spaces but also thread in clever through balls, thus improving his team’s chance creation.
How does Silva fit in at Spurs?
Silva is equipped with all the qualities that could make him an asset for Tottenham Hotspur. His quick feet and pace, as mentioned earlier, is something that could set him apart from the entire team except for Kane.
Tactically, therefore, the Portuguese starlet is much more likely to settle in Spurs, alongside the likes of Son-Heung Min and Lucas Moura. His ability to link-up with players, keeping hold of the ball and drifting into wide spaces will make Jose Mourinho’s side much more effective going forward.
Should Spurs sign Silva this summer?
What makes Silva such a risky target, not just for Tottenham but for any European club is his lack of experience at the highest level of football. Unlike Felix, the 17-year-old is yet to prove himself in the Portuguese top flight.
Therefore, it would perhaps be wiser for the Lilywhites to allow Silva to remain at FC Porto for at least another season. The youngster is tipped to receive a more prominent role in the first-team next season, thus helping him gain some valuable experience in professional football. In the meantime, the north London giants should try their best to keep hold of Kane, whose departure will serve as a massive blow for the club.
