According to a recent report by Chronicle Live, speaking on the Sky Sports Football Show, Paul Merson has urged Newcastle United to target Aston Villa forward Jack Grealish as their first signing, after the prospective takeover that’s currently in the works gets completed. It has been clarified that the deal has been advancing, with the Premier League officials now assessing the credentials of the new chairman. The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman will cover most of the investment. At the same time, British financier Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers are also involved in the deal.
The report suggests that various high-profile links have come about in recent days, but Paul Merson believes that Jack Grealish should be their number one priority for the summer. Merson said, “You’d have no chance with Kevin De Bruyne or Bruno Fernandes, but I would sign Jack Grealish when I watch Newcastle play, they haven’t got enough brave footballers. I played against Newcastle many times, and it was always keeping the crowd quiet. For me, Jack Grealish would tick the boxes. One, he would entertain and two, he would like to get on the ball. Definitely, I’d take Grealish.”
What Makes Jack Grealish An Attractive Option For Newcastle United?
The Aston Villa forward was undoubtedly one of the standout players of the league season until it was brought to a grinding halt by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Englishman’s attacking play is right up there with the best, and despite being just 24, Dean Smith has entrusted him with the armband for quite a while. Although the England youth international will never be the quickest player on the pitch, his unbelievable balance and dribbling abilities make him a nuisance to defend against.
Capable of changing the course of a game with a single moment of brilliance, Grealish is undoubtedly one of the brightest English talents in the Premier League right now. The Villa academy graduate is versatile enough to operate in a variety of positions in the front-line or midfield. The number of matches that the 24-year-old has singlehandedly turned around for the Villans is commendable, and his league record of seven goals and six assists this season is fairly impressive too.
Why Newcastle United Must Sign Grealish In The Summer If They Can?
The Magpies are one of the many teams in the league who have struggled to find a potent goalscorer capable of spearheading the attack. Despite the big-money acquisition of Brazilian talisman Joelinton, Steve Bruce’s fortunes in front of goal didn’t change. The arrivals of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin over the last couple of seasons have helped freshen things up in the attack. Still, the loss of Ayoze Perez over the summer is something they clearly haven’t recovered from.
Jack Grealish would, simply put, be an upgrade on the Leicester City man. The fact that the Englishman can play on the flanks, in midfield, or even an as attacking midfielder, will come as a massive boost to the Magpies.
There were certain fixtures in the current league campaign where, despite possessing ample pace and penetration down the flanks, the Toon seemed to lack creativity in the central areas. The addition of a player of Grealish’s quality would arguably help carry this Newcastle attack to the next level.
