According to a recent report by German news source Bild, Manchester City starlet Leroy Sané has been the subject of interest from German outfit Bayern Munich, with the player’s new agent even opening up the door for a potential summer move away from the Etihad Stadium. Speaking to Bild, Managing Director of LIAN Sports Damir Smoljan said that they would be holding discussions with City to finalise the next step in the prodigious German’s career.
The agent then went on to clarify that the interest from the German champions has been no secret, but that various top clubs from across the continent have contacted them about a possible summer transfer for Leroy Sané. Smoljan finished by saying that the Bavarians are the only German club that Sane would move to, mostly because it would be the next big step that permits him clear opportunities at winning the Champions League.
What Issues Did Manchester City Face In Sane’s Absence Last Season?
The biggest point of concern was undoubtedly the shortage of natural wingers in the squad. Bernardo Silva has effectively been converted into an advanced midfielder by Pep Guardiola, but he was required to fill in on the wide areas during certain fixtures. Moreover, the gaffer even had to resort to playing Gabriel Jesus in that role, when players like Raheem Sterling weren’t displaying the required kind of form.
What Does Leroy Sané Add To This Manchester City Side?
The speedster is one of the brightest young stars in not just this Manchester City team, but also in the entirety of the Premier League. Adept at beating a defender for pace or with trickery, Sané is one of the most potent wide-men in the continent. Unselfish in his playing style, the German had been a feature of the Manchester City team before picking up that unfortunate injury during the community shield at the start of this season.
The German is capable of dribbling entire teams on his own, while the trickster’s off the ball awareness is quite commendable too. Despite being rather young, Sané helps out at the back to a certain degree, but it must be conceded that he’s at his most effective while driving forward with the ball. As good as he is at passing and movement, the two areas that make Sané such an attractive option for so many of the big teams is that he can take on a man and beat them, only then to find the most improbable way to the goal.
Can Manchester City Afford To Sell Sané?
The 24-year-old didn’t feature in a single league fixture for the first-team this season owing to a long-term knock. Despite this, his numbers from the last term should be more than enough to motivate Guardiola to keep the German at the club.
He picked up ten goals and 11 assists from 31 league fixtures last season, and as we’ve seen in the past, the German tends to be an extremely productive player while on the pitch. There’s no denying that City could sell him for a fairly substantial profit, but the fact remains that the Citizens could do with a player of Sane’s quality at this point.
