According to a recent report by the Daily Record, Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers have been handed a massive boost in their hopes to secure the signature of prodigious attacker Ianis Hagi this upcoming summer. The report suggests that Hagi’s father – Gheorghe Hagi – the former Real Madrid midfield legend, has branded Rangers to be an ‘extraordinary’ club and that his son will wait patiently for as long as it takes to secure a permanent contract at the Ibrox. The former Real Madrid legend’s choice of words during the chat could come as massive motivation to Steven Gerrard.
The Gers will supposedly be able to sign the Romanian a fee in the region of £4.5m in the summer. Still, the fact that the likes of Real Madrid and Lazio are also keeping tabs on his could end up complicating the situation.
Speaking on the matter, Gheorghe Hagi said, “He wanted to sign for a big team and he’s at a huge club, strong in Europe – Rangers are an extraordinary club with a winning mentality. He has a training programme from Rangers and he sticks to it 100 per cent. He sends them his data and is never off his bike in the house. There is no deadline for Rangers. They can wait as long as they like.”
What Makes Signing Ianis Hagi Permanently An Exciting Prospect?
The 21-year-old Romanian international attacker is currently at the Ibrox on loan from Belgian side KRC Genk. Despite his tender age, there is an option to buy in the player’s contract, that is said to be valued at around £4.5m. Having only come into the side in January, Hagi made just seven appearances in the league before the season was brought to a halt. While Rangers fans still have a lot more of Ianis Hagi’s qualities left to see, he has been spectacular so far.
What Does Hagi Add To This Rangers Side?
The Romanian is capable of playing anywhere across the front-line but is undoubtedly at his absolute best when deployed as the number ten, just in behind the main striker. Adept at beating a defender with his movement and trickery, Hagi might just be one of the best dribblers on the ball that Rangers boast. Despite not being overly quick, the 21-year-old uses his agility and balance to get around even the biggest defenders. At the same time, he tends to keep his composure when presented with a scoring opportunity as well.
Formerly of Fiorentina and Belgian outfit KRC Genk, the youngster is a strong passer of the ball in the midfield area. Although Hagi stands at over 1.82m tall, the Romanian tends to possess excellent ball-carrying skills, which he tries to use at least a few times every game. One of the 21-year-old’s major selling points will be the fact that he’s one of the few young players in the game at the moment who can maintain his calm even in the most high-pressure situation. While that could be down to having a legendary footballer for a father, there’s no denying that Hagi can become one of the best.
Should Gerrard Look To Sanction This Signing In The Summer?
The sheer fact that the likes of Real Madrid and Lazio are keeping tabs on Ianis Hagi clearly shows that the youngster is doing something right. His attacking creativity has been on display on a few occasions after his transfer, but the Ibrox fans are yet to see the full picture of what Hagi can offer in the final third. Such a massive compliment from a true legend of the sport is sure to come as a boost to any club. With the current world market situation where it is currently, it would be smart on Gerrard’s part to sign Hagi up permanently at the earliest possible opportunity.
