According to a recent report by The Daily Express, Inter Milan are preparing to offer Everton striker Moise Kean an escape route away from Merseyside in this off-season. The same source has also stated that Inter boss Antonio Conte is keen on signing the Toffees flop, whose current contract at Goodison Park runs out in the summer of 2024. It is believed that the Italian forward could welcome the opportunity to make a move back to his homeland amid fears that another lacklustre season in England could hamper his chances of playing in the UEFA European Championship finals next year (via The Daily Express).
Kean’s Underwhelming Spell At Merseyside
Kean has struggled to perform at a high level since making a high-profile switch from Juventus last summer. He has found the back of the net just once and bagged two assists in 26 matches for the Merseyside club this term across all competitions. However, what’s even more surprising is his lack of first-team chances this season after he received only 864 minutes of game time under the stewardship of Marco Silva and now, Carlo Ancelotti.
The 20-year-old has averaged 1.1 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League which highlights how much he has struggled during this campaign so far (stats via whoscored). With the football world coming to a standstill because of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, this summer could serve as a perfect opportunity for the player to move on in search of greener pastures. The San Siro will be an attractive destination for him, especially after he failed to find any kind of form for Everton this term.
To his credit, Kean has made a decent start to his international career after scoring two goals in three appearances for the Italian national side. Maybe a summer move to Italy could give him the platform to prove his worth and stake a claim for a spot in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for next year’s UEFA European Championship finals.
What Does The Italian Youngster Offer On The Pitch?
Kean can use his quickness and low centre of gravity to make some driving runs with the ball in the final third. When playing with confidence on the field, he can also be a decent finisher inside the opposition penalty area. However, the Italian has lacked confidence throughout his spell at Goodison Park, which could be one of the main reasons behind his recent shortcomings in the offensive end of the field.
Should The Toffees Sanction Kean’s Departure This Summer?
Kean is still quite a raw talent, so unless Ancelotti is willing to be patient with him, the Italian tactician will be better of letting his countryman leave before the start of the new campaign. The Toffees currently have Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin leading the charge for them down the middle. The attacking pair have struck up a productive partnership since Ancelotti took charge of the club back in December. However, if Everton decide to cut Kean loose, then they will be in dire need of some attacking reinforcements this summer.
Theo Walcott can also fill in as a centre-forward, but he is far from a prolific in front of goal while Anthony Gordon is still quite inexperienced to feature in the Premier League every week. Therefore, Ancelotti needs to ensure he finds a suitable replacement for Kean before making any decision on his future in the coming weeks.
Alternatively, the Toffees boss could also choose to back Kean by retaining his services beyond this summer in the hopes of his revival next season. The Italian goal-getter still has the makings of a top forward, but only time will tell whether he can prove his worth in the English top-flight.
