According to Milliyet journalist Nevzat Dindar, Galatasaray have identified Trezeguet as a top target this summer. The Aston Villa winger has been included in the transfer list of the European giants, who are preparing for life without Sofiane Feghouli next season. Trezeguet’s current contract at Villa expires in 2023.
How has Trezeguet performed at Villa this season?
Trezeguet joined Aston Villa last summer, in a €10 million move from Kasimpasa. He has not been an ever-present figure in the first-team, notching up just over 1,300 minutes of league football. He has been involved in five goals, which is not exactly an impressive statistic.
In fact, the Villans have still largely appeared over-reliant on the services of Jack Grealish in terms of creativity. While the English international has been among one of Premier League’s best chance creators this season, Trezeguet has only averaged 0.8 key passes per game.
The Egyptian has also attained a dribble success rate of under 50% while averaging 1.5 shots on goal per game. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Aston Villa have been among the worst-performing teams in the Premier League this season. Lack of productivity from star players like Trezeguet has seen them score only 34 goals, though their leaky defence has been the main culprit behind their flirtation with the relegation zone.
Should Villa get rid of Trezeguet?
Aston Villa should, no doubt, offload Trezeguet in the summer. With relegation looming large, the Villans are unlikely to have too many options either.
Trezeguet’s departure will create some space in the attacking department, allowing the younger, academy products to gain more exposure to the first-team. More importantly, it will financially help them, which is the need of the hour due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic that has caused huge financial repercussions in the sporting world.
From the player’s perspective, Trezeguet’s return to Turkey would also make sense. The attacker was highly successful during his spell at Kasimpasa and at Galatasaray, he will have the opportunity to redeem himself at one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.
Not to mention, he may have the opportunity of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, should the Turkish giants manage to end the campaign on a positive note.
