According to a recent report by Goal, French World Cup winning midfield destroyer N’Golo Kante will only choose to leave Chelsea if forced out by the club. The report suggests that Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all shown interest in his signature, but that the Frenchman is reluctant to move away from Stamford Bridge. It has been clarified that a move to PSG is unlikely owing to all the off-field issues they’ve had to deal with over the last few years.
It is suggested that Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has been a long-standing admirer of the diminutive Frenchman’s qualities and that he’s even been looking for backup options to Casemiro in the Madrid squad. Kante, though is said to be unwilling to accept a second-choice role. Moreover, an interest from Barcelona has also been registered, but it has been confirmed that the Frenchman will not leave unless the London club look to cash in themselves.
What Is Kante’s Legacy At Chelsea?
The Frenchman arrived at Chelsea from Leicester City on the back of their unforgettable league title triumph a few years ago. Despite coming into the Premier League straight from the French second division, saying that Kante had an immediate impact would only be an understatement. Since the switch to Stamford Bridge, the French midfielder’s overall play has improved quite a bit, thanks to some able guidance from some of the most prominent managers in the world.
Over the last couple of seasons though, the Frenchman’s influence within the squad seems to be dwindling. The former Caen man suffered from multiple injuries all through this league season and even had to face the disappointment of not being able to put in a single sustained run in the first-team. Despite this, having been a player at Chelsea for the longest time now, Frank Lampard would be well aware of just how much quality this midfielder possesses.
What Makes N’Golo Kante Such A Desirable Target?
The former Leicester City ace is undoubtedly one of the hardest working players in world football, and there aren’t too many midfielders who can match up to his enthusiasm and dedication towards the cause. Despite not being overly great with the ball at his feet, Kante has a decent pass on him and has even added dribbling skills to his game recently.
His ability to consistently read opposition plays and make timely interceptions make Kante one of the most desirable defensive midfielders in the European game, if not the most.
Can Chelsea Afford To Sell Kante This Summer?
The former Leicester City man is amongst the most experienced members of this Chelsea team, especially considering all the youngsters that have been brought in throughout the season. With the futures of players like Willian, Pedro and Olivier Giroud all still hanging in the balance, selling 29-year-old Kante could turn out to be defensive suicide, and it’s a move that the Blues will do well to avoid this summer.
