Arsenal Are Still In Negotiations With Aubameyang Over A New Contract
A source close to The 4th Official has revealed to us that Arsenal are still in talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over a fresh contract and any recent reports about the Gunners ‘pulling the plug’ on negotiations with the player are untrue.
On Sunday, The Daily Express had claimed that the North London giants have decided to cash in on the Gabonese striker this summer rather than lose him for nothing when his contract at the Emirates Stadium runs out at the end of next season. The same source had also mentioned that Inter Milan are in pole position to secure the services of the ex-Borussia Dortmund attacker after Arsenal decided to end their contract talks with the player.
However, as mentioned above, a source close to The 4th Official has denied those claims as the Gunners are still working hard on tieing Aubameyang up on a new deal so that they can ensure that his long-term future is at the English capital.
Aubameyang has enjoyed another impressive season at the Emirates Stadium after banging in 20 goals in 32 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this term across all competitions. He has also averaged 2.5 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League which goes to show how lethal he can be in the final third despite not having the ball too often at his feet (stats via whoscored).
The Gabon international shared the Premier League’s golden boot award with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane last season after finishing with 23 goals to his name. He has proven himself to be a natural goal-scorer in England. Therefore, the Gunners cannot afford to let the talented centre-forward leave without putting up a proper fight to keep hold of him beyond the summer of 2021.
Only time will tell what lies ahead for Aubameyang and whether he ends up extending his current deal at the North London club.
