According to a recent report by Arena Napoli, Everton are among a whole host of clubs hoping to secure the services of Napoli centre-forward Arkadiusz Milik this summer. The same source has also revealed that the Toffees will face fierce competition from Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Serie A marksman. It is believed that the Merseyside club are willing to make an offer in the region of €30-35m which is significantly lower than the €45-50m that the Naples-based outfit are demanding for their prized asset (via Arena Napoli).
Milik’s Prolific Record At Naples Despite Recent Injury Struggles
The Polish frontman has enjoyed a fruitful season despite missing out on several matches due to frequent injuries. However, he has managed to overcome his injury woes by putting in a string of goal-scoring performances across all competitions. The 26-year-old has banged in 12 goals in 22 matches for Napoli this term, playing a total of 1545 minutes in the process which proves how well he has done even with limited game time on the field.
Milik has averaged 3.4 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles in every 90 minutes of league football this season (stats via whoscored). On his day, he can be a lethal presence in the attacking third of the pitch, which is why Everton should try their best to lure him to Goodison Park during the summer transfer window.
The Tychy-born striker has got a wealth of experience at the international level, having secured 49 senior caps for the Polish national team while netting 14 goals for his homeland thus far. He will be expected to play a crucial role for his nation in the upcoming UEFA European Championship which has been delayed until the summer of 2021 following the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
What Will The Poland International Bring To Goodison Park?
Milik is not shy of running the channels when leading the charge down the middle and can also take up position himself in the final third to score some important goals for his team. He is also an unforgiving finisher in front of the opposition goal. What makes him such an exceptional striker is his ability to launch a rocket of a shot from long range. He will undeniably be a welcome addition to the Toffees squad if they can find a way to win the race to land him this summer.
Carlo Ancelotti has currently got Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin carrying most of the goal-scoring workload up top. However, the talented duo can do with some help in the form of new arrivals so that they can find even more joy going forward in the coming years. A striker of Milik’s quality and goal-threat will not only add another dimension to Ancelotti’s attack but also increase competition for places within his squad.
Furthermore, he will also give the Italian tactician the freedom to express himself with his team selection and tactics next season. The Merseyside club had lacked a proper goal-scoring forward since Romelu Lukaku’s departure back in 2017. Its high time they signed another prolific centre-forward which makes Milik a worthy summer target for them to pursue when the window reopens later this year.
