According to a recent report by Metro, quoting a Bleacher Report Q&A, Premier League giants Chelsea are said to be tracking Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang according to Dean Jones. The report suggests that the 30-year-old’s current contract extends until the end of next season, at which point he’d be able to walk away from the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer.
It has been suggested that the Gabon international has already rejected two proposals from Arsenal over an extension. At the same time, the fact that his last involvement in the Champions League was back in 2017 is sure to have had a negative impact as well. Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones clarified that the Blues are eyeing a plethora of top attacking talent and that a cheeky bid for the Arsenal man is well within their radar.
What Is Aubameyang’s Role At Arsenal Right Now?
The former Borussia Dortmund man arrived at the Emirates with massive expectations already placed on his shoulders. Despite not having the greatest of starts to life in England, it’s safe to say that Aubameyang has gone on to become the Gunners’ most important player at this point. With that in mind, Arsenal selling their star striker to one of the fiercest London rivals does seem a bit odd even to propose.
The Gabonese star has played across various positions for this North London side over the last couple of seasons, with most of his fixtures actually being played out on the flank. The partnership that the former Bundesliga man formed up with Alexandre Lacazette did seem to work wonders for Arsenal during certain points in the season.
The attacker has notched up an impressive league return of 17 goals and an assist from 26 fixtures this term, despite which the Gunners have struggled to maintain any sort of form.
What Argument Could The Blues Use To Lure Him Away?
The simplest thing for the Blues to do at this point would be to try and approach the striker with a promise of Champions League football. The West London side have been participants in the biggest cup competition in the world over the last couple of seasons. Given the position they were in going into the league suspension, there’s every chance that they will secure that valuable 4th spot again this year. Arsenal, on the other hand, haven’t been in the UCL for quite a while now and making it into the competition next year does seem like a long shot at best.
Why Arsenal Must Convince Aubameyang To Stay?
The Gabonese striker has undoubtedly been the Gunners’ most influential player over the last couple of seasons. Despite all the collective struggles that this team has had to go through, the former Bundesliga man’s exploits in front of goal have always been second to none. Even key names like Lacazette have begun to be wasteful, and losing Aubameyang in such a situation could spell the beginning of the end for Arsenal in their ambitions for regaining top status in the country.
