SPFL and their flawed voting process to decide the season remains the most significant talking point since the past few days. Celtic have one hand on the Premiership title but, at the same time, are working tirelessly behind the scenes to enrich their esteemed academy ranks.
The Hoops are hailed for their grassroots establishment, and according to Kieran Devlin of The Athletic, Celtic are aiming a triple raid on Everton over a potential summer move for their promising trio Anthony Gordon, Morgan Feeney and Lewis Gibson.
Career Highlights So Far
Gordon, 19, is an England youth international who had a couple of senior Premier League appearances this year before the lockdown. His impressive form in PL2 earned him a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s senior set-up and the teenager, rated for his ability to feature across the frontline, is held in high regards in the blue half of Merseyside.
Gibson, too, has been colossal for the Three Lions U20s. He was a part of the exciting English side that lifted the U17 FIFA World Cup back in 2017. His defensive mastery in the Premier League reserves led to a January switch to Fleetwood Town for the remainder of the campaign. The 19-year-old centre-half was having crucial senior experience under Joey Barton at Highbury and featured for 90 minutes in all nine occasions before the game got suspended countrywide.
Morgan Feeney, also a centre-back, had a couple of senior appearances in Europe during the 2017-18 season. But he failed to make it to their first-team squad ever since and spent the time with the Toffees’ U23s until recently when a loan move to Tranmere Rovers took place on the winter deadline.
At 21, the time is ticking for the Englishman at Goodison Park and the club are unlikely to extend his stay beyond this summer when the current deal expires.
Why Celtic Might Struggle To Rope In All Three Of Them
Celtic, meanwhile, might rope in Feeney on a Bosman transfer and add more depth in deep defence to deal with the injury woes. They already made a loan approach for Gordon in January which, however, was knocked back by the Blues. Although these youngsters have been scouted extensively in recent months, the Hoops might find it difficult to tie down Gordon and Gibson considering their emergence at the senior level in recent months.
