According to Daily Star, David Silva has received a host of offers as he nears the end of his long and successful spell at Manchester City. The Spaniard is expected to leave Etihad in the summer. As a result, clubs from the USA, Japan and even Spain are trying to land a deal. In this article, we will assess the best option for Silva as he makes the next step in his career.
A fairytale return to Spain?
Silva has reportedly been offered a contract by Real Betis. The Spanish giants are ready to give him an opportunity to return to Spain after ten years at Manchester City.
Los Beticos haven’t exactly performed as per expectations this season, and the addition of someone like Silva would undoubtedly serve as a boost. His experience at the highest level of football simply cannot be overlooked. He might even turn out to be a temporary replacement for Giovani Lo Celso, whose departure to Tottenham Hotspur has created a massive void in the creative department.
Silva, no doubt, still has the quality to play at the highest level of football. But, at the age of 34, a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues could unnecessarily put sporting pressure on the Manchester City playmaker. The player did want to finish his career at Las Palmas, but the Canaries are currently in the second division, meaning a return to Spain looks unlikely.
Joining forces with Iniesta?
Silva also has offers from Japanese League 1 outfit Vissel Kobe, arguably the biggest club in the country. Indeed, Vissel Kobe have made a host of eye-catching acquisitions within the past few years, including the arrival of Andres Iniesta and Lukas Podolski. They also have ex-Barcelona star Sergi Samper as well as Belgian international Thomas Vermaelen.
At Vissel Kobe, Silva will have the chance to unite with his former Spanish teammate and Barcelona legend Iniesta. Their combination in midfield will surely be something to keep an eye on, even though both the players are already in the final phase of their respective careers, with Iniesta set to turn 36 at the end of next month.
Nevertheless, Silva joining Kobe will be cherished by fans. However, it would perhaps be fair also to consider offers from the MLS.
Major League Soccer
Major League Soccer is generally considered as the primary option for players nearing the twilight of their careers. A host of top-class footballers have moved to MLS in the past, a star-studded list that includes David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among many others.
Speaking of Beckham, the English footballing legend owns stakes at Inter Miami. He was even keen on signing Silva next season. A move to Miami would certainly make sense for the ageing Spanish midfielder. The MLS outfit does not exactly have any experienced European footballer.
That being said, Miami have shown a lot of ambition in the market, and it’s a matter of time before they sign a quality individual. A star player like Silva would certainly boost the overall quality of the squad and Miami, as a city, is perhaps the most ideal place for the Manchester City star.
