According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, quoting betting website Betfair, former Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov has come out and urged Arsenal attacking ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to reconsider a potential move to La Liga, over question marks about how much playing time he would receive.
Berbatov highlighted the plethora of high-quality attacking talents that are already at the disposal of both the interested parties – Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Bulgarian striker questioned whether Aubameyang would be able to retain his ‘main man’ status upon moving to one of arguably the two biggest clubs in the world.
He further said, “from his perspective, either of them is a good move because they are two of the best teams in the world, but then you have to look at their line-ups, which include Messi, Suarez, Griezmann, Dembele, Fati, Benzema, Bale, Hazard. Would Aubameyang play much in either of those squads? He’s not getting any younger; he needs to be at a club where he is going to play and at Arsenal he is the captain. But the biggest factor in all of this is winning trophies.”
What Makes Aubameyang A Good Option For Real Madrid?
While breaking into the Barcelona front-line could be quite the challenge, it must be conceded that Los Blancos could probably do with a couple of more attackers in their side. For all the high-quality names they possess in the form of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Isco and Marco Asensio, one common factor is that they’re all injury prone. Each of them is effectively guaranteed to miss at least a couple of weeks of action every season, during which the attacking onus falls entirely onto the head of Karim Benzema.
Signing a player of Aubameyang’s quality to support the front-line would help bring the best out of Benzema, while the fact that he’s versatile enough to even play on the flanks will come as a massive boost to Zinedine Zidane. Despite all the massive names that the Frenchman has at his disposal, finding a regular attacking trio has been a frustrating concern for the manager and fans alike. Gareth Bale seems past his prime now, while the likes of Vinicius, Rodrygo, Reinier and Brahim Diaz are still far too young to be depended on.
Add in Belgian superstar Eden Hazard’s horror first season at the Bernabeu, and it becomes more apparent that the addition of an experienced forward like Aubameyang could drastically change Los Blancos’ fortunes. Karim Benzema is set to turn 33 before the turn of the year, meaning that his time playing at the highest level is bound to be limited too. Aubameyang is a rather well-rounded and complete striker who performs most attacking elements satisfactorily, and would hence be a useful utility option for Zidane in the coming years.
Why Real Madrid Must Convince Aubameyang To Move To Spain?
The Gabonese international striker has proven himself to be one of the best finishers in Europe, as he boasts excellent pace, dribbling skills as well as goalscoring abilities. Extremely sharp on the turn and almost impossible to catch on the charge, the 30-year-old would be a good short-term alternative to Karim Benzema, and his 17 goals from 26 Premier League fixtures this season further highlight that fact. Zidane will be well-aware that the Arsenal man is a very different kind of striker to Benzema. Still, considering that Aubameyang can play across a variety of positions, it’s a move that the French manager could be tempted to make.
