According to Calciomercato, as cited by Express, Arsenal are considering making a move for Filip Marchwinski. The Lech Poznan playmaker has been identified as a potential target as Mikel Arteta looks to add more reinforcements in the creative department. Marchwinski has recently been on trial at Arsenal, and a summer move to Emirates could be on the horizon.
Who is Filip Marchwinski?
Marchwinski is a product of the Lech Poznan youth academy. He was a star for the club’s U19 side as well as the Polish youth teams, scoring lots of goals in the youth competitions. As a result, the youngster was promoted to the first-team of Lech Poznan during the end of December 2018.
Marchwinski ended up scoring two goals during the remainder of the campaign, helping the club finish eighth. This season, the attacking midfielder has attained a similar record, netting two goals in 11 matches. However, it is fair to point out that he is yet to become a regular first-team member, having mustered only 248 minutes of league football so far.
Coach Dariusz Zuraw has primarily preferred Darko Jevtic in the number ten slot, with Marchwinski only playing as a back-up. But, it won’t be surprising to see the 18-year-old enjoying a more prominent role in the starting eleven in the near future.
Where does Marchwinski fit in at Arsenal?
Marchwinski could be an exciting addition for Arsenal. The young Pole would provide additional competition for Joe Willock, who is considered as the primary backup for star playmaker Mesut Ozil.
The German has looked better under Arteta. But, his overall performances have been pretty underwhelming, meaning both Willock and Marchwinski will have a chance to potentially make a breakthrough in the starting lineup next season.
Moreover, the Pole can also be deployed as a secondary forward and even as a number nine. This could be useful for Arteta, especially with club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang facing an uncertain future at the club. The Gabonese international has already been courted by Manchester United and Barcelona.
Should Arsenal make a move?
Marchwinski seems like an appealing target for Arsenal. However, it would perhaps be wiser for the Gunners to stay put, as far as their pursuit of the young Lech Poznan starlet is concerned.
Indeed, the 18-year-old has very little to no experience at the highest level of football. He still needs to get used to playing in a higher paced game if he is to settle into the competitive nature of the Premier League. Hence, Arsenal should refrain from making a move for Marchwinski in the summer and should instead continue to monitor his progress at Lech next season.
