According to the Norwegian FA (via BBC), UEFA have decided to postpone the 2020 European Championship to 2021 in response to the recent coronavirus outbreak. It is believed that UEFA will provide an official confirmation later this Tuesday (via BBC). The prestigious tournament will now take place from 11 June to 11 July in the next calendar year.
With most European leagues currently coming to a standstill following the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems like a logical decision from the UEFA to postpone the Euros as it will give all the European clubs a chance to finish off their respective campaigns.
Here are some of the best fan reactions from Twitter regarding UEFA’s big decision.
A Cristiano Ronaldo supporter was concerned about Portugal’s chances next year.

The same fan posted another great tweet pointing out how UEFA’s decision will impact Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

One fan was quick to point out the fact that all five major confederation tournaments could now take place in 2021.
So, CAF African Cup of Nation, Conmebol Copa America, UEFA EURO, Concacaf Gold Cup will be held in same year.
With OFC nation cup will be held this year in june if didnt get affected by coronavirus, or we will get 5 confederation tournament on same year

There were other interesting reactions as well.
Alas, a sensible decision from @UEFA .
Euro 2020 has been postponed to summer of 2021. The European leagues and Champions league will be completed in the summer and the new season can easily start from August again.

Gutted about UEFA EURO 2020 being moved to 2021 if it’s for best of people’s health then it be for the better

Only time will tell whether postponing the UEFA Euro 2020 to 2021 would be enough for all the major European associations to cope with the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. It is still unclear whether football will be safe to resume in the summer months as the efforts continue to prevent the spread of the virus.
At the moment, UEFA’s decision has gathered mixed reactions from fans, but with time, they will hopefully be able to see the severity of the situation and the reasons why such a call was made. There would have been massive financial repercussions for all European clubs if their domestic leagues got null and void because of the outbreak. At least, they will now have a chance to play the remainder of their matches during the summer months.
