According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in the services of Erling Haaland. The Lilywhites could even make a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker in the summer amid reports linking Harry Kane to a move away from north London. However, they could face stiff competition from Juventus as well as league rivals Manchester United.
Player profile of Erling Haaland
Haaland’s success in Europe has already been well documented this season. After arriving at Borussia Dortmund in January, the striker has scored 12 goals in 11 competitive matches. His contributions in front of goal have helped the Black and Yellows continue their push for the league title.
As far as his gameplay is concerned, Haaland is a complete forward. Standing at 1.94m, he is a towering figure in the final third. His impressive physique often hands him an advantage during physical duels. His long legs also allow him to cover ground quickly, making him an effective figure in the first line of press.
In fact, the Norwegian clocked 60 metres in just 6.64 seconds – an impressive record indeed. But, pace isn’t his only asset. The youngster is also capable of linking up with his teammates and play neat one-twos. He has already built an excellent combination with Jadon Sancho, following his move to Borussia Dortmund.
However, what makes Haaland such a highly-rated individual in world football is his ability to score goals. Indeed, the 19-year-old is lethal in front of goal, having found the back of the net 40 times in 33 matches in all competitions this season.
Can Haaland replace Harry Kane?
Haaland could be an ideal replacement for Kane for several reasons. The Dortmund forward, as mentioned earlier, is capable of finding the back of the net consistently, which is something Tottenham have lacked since the turn of the year.
But more importantly, both Haaland and Kane are quite similar as far as their style of play is concerned. The youngster, much like his English counterpart, likes to play on the shoulders of the last defender and is very good at sensing scoring opportunities. Moreover, he has the physical attributes to thrive in a one v one situation – making him an ideal fit for the Premier League.
At the same time, however, securing the services of Haaland won’t be an easy task for Tottenham Hotspur. The ex-RB Salzburg prodigy has only joined Dortmund in January, and the Black and Yellows are unlikely to let go of their prized asset anytime soon. Not to mention, the Lilywhites are not exactly an appealing destination for the striker, who would prefer Champions League football.
