According to a recent report by The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are hoping to turn Danny Rose’s loan deal into a permanent move with Tottenham Hotspur open to selling him this summer. The same source has revealed that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has indicated that he is prepared to let the English full-back leave in the off-season which could open the door for the Magpies to sign him permanently before the start of the new campaign.
Rose’s Impressive Start To Life At St. James’ Park
The 29-year-old has made six appearances for the Tyneside outfit after sealing a loan move from North London during the January transfer window. He is yet to score or assist a goal for Steve Bruce’s side but has got 442 minutes of playing time under his belt.
The English left-back has averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 1.2 clearances per game in the Premier League which goes to show that he is improving the defensive side of his game (stats via whoscored). He has also secured 29 senior caps for the England national side but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.
A permanent change of scenery this summer could be ideal for Rose as it would give him the chance to reignite his career in English football next season. If he does so, then he should have a good chance of being named in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for the UEFA European Championship which will now take place in the summer of 2021 due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak.
What Does The English Defender Offer On The Field?
Rose is a moderately paced full-back these days after losing a yard of pace over the past few years due to frequent injuries which have hampered his progress at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He can make some mazy runs down the left flank and has improved his defensive performances inside his own half this season. However, the English full-back needs to find some consistency if he wants to prove his worth to the Toon Army in the coming years.
Rose Making A Permanent Switch To Newcastle: Good Move For All Parties?
Newcastle can benefit from acquiring a player of Rose’s quality permanently as he will be a natural fit for them in the left-back position. He had already shown great maturity with his performances for the Magpies before the season got postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. As long as the English defensive ace can build on his recent showings, he should be a smart short-term addition to Bruce’s squad.
Rose will be able to get regular game time at St. James’ Park which is always a plus for a player hoping to resurrect his career. Thus, it could turn out to be a good move for everyone involved if Mourinho ends up sanctioning his permanent departure to Newcastle ahead of the new season.
Without Rose, Bruce currently has Jetro Willems as his only other left-back option. Therefore he has often been forced to play Javier Manquillo and Matt Ritchie in a makeshift role in that position. All in all, Rose seems to be a good fit for the Magpies as long as he can stay injury-free and improve his productivity in the final third.
