According to a recent report by Don Balon, Liverpool are among a whole host of clubs which include Inter Milan, Juventus, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich hoping to battle it out with Barcelona for the right to secure Valencia attacker Ferran Torres’ signature this summer. The same source has also stated that the Mestalla outfit will demand a fee around €55m for their prized asset with the competition expected to heat up when the transfer window reopens later this year.
Torres’ Rapid Rise In Spanish Football
The Spanish wide player has enjoyed a decent run of form in La Liga this season after putting in quite a few impressive performances for Albert Celades’ side so far. He has netted six goals and provided seven assists in 35 appearances for the Spanish outfit this term across all competitions which goes to show his growing influence at the Mestalla Stadium.
Torres has averaged 1.2 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in league football and the UEFA Champions League this season (stats via whoscored). He has found a level of consistency with his performances on all fronts which have raised his stock significantly in the transfer market.
The 20-year-old has also represented Spain at various youth levels but is yet to earn a senior cap for his nation. However, his ceiling is sky-high so he could be destined to play for Luis Enrique’s senior team if he can continue to make such rapid progress in the coming years.
What Will The Spanish Youngster Add To Klopp’s Side?
Torres has a terrific turn of pace which he can use to get the better of his marker down the wide positions. He usually operates on the right-wing but can fill in on the left flank as well if required. At such a tender age, the Spanish starlet has already got a lot of playing time under his belt and has done remarkably well to score and create so many important goals for his side this season.
However, Torres’ overall game still has a lot of room for improvement, so a world-class man-manager like Jurgen Klopp will be the perfect guy to oversee his development in the future. Anfield seems to be an attractive destination for young players at the moment with Klopp often relying on his academy stars to deliver in the cup competitions. As far as Torres is concerned, he will likely play as a back-up to Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah unless Liverpool decide to part ways with one of them this summer.
Klopp will also have the option to switch between his attackers if he can find a way to lure the Spaniard to Anfield in the off-season. The Reds have struggled to perform well in the domestic cup competitions since their German head coach’s arrival back in 2015. Hence, a winger of Torres’ potential will undeniably be a brilliant acquisition for the Merseyside giants before the start of the new season.
