Recently reports from La Lazio Siamo Noi emerged that Lazio are interested in signing Ianis Hagi. The report added that Hagi would prefer a move to the Serie A instead of staying in the Scottish premiership. However, Jordan Campbell of the Athletic went on to reveal that Hagi’ likes it’ at Ibrox.
Campbell gives update on Lazio interest
In a Q and A session with the Athletic (subscription needed), Campbell wrote, “The Lazio interest is true I believe, but Rangers have an exclusive option to buy, and Hagi likes it here. Any purchase would be part of the model to sell on and doing that instantly limits what a full season could do to his price tag.”
Yesterday we had suggested that if Hagi pushes for a move away, then Rangers should look to sign him and try to sell him on a profit. We mentioned that it wasn’t an ideal thing to do but something which Gerrard could have done if Hagi really decided to head out.
Positive update for Gerrard
However, Campbell revealed that Rangers don’t have something like that in mind. With him now reporting that Hagi is happy with life at Ibrox so far, it is undoubtedly good news for the Gers. At Rangers, Hagi will get to play an instrumental role in the first team. Whereas at Lazio, he might have to work his way up before getting regular game time for the Italian side.
The Romanian has already made a significant impact for the Glaswegian giants in the short time he has been here. The 21-year-old has immense potential, and he can go on a roll if he manages to play to the best of his abilities. Gerrard will also have a role to play in that as the manager will need to use him smartly to get the best out of him.
Hagi is at his best when he gets the ball in central areas. The fact that he is comfortable on both his feet makes it tough for defenders to guess on which side he might push the ball to. He can also unleash long-range shots. The ten-time Romania international has that passing range as well if players around him are willing to make runs.
The report from Italy stated that Rangers could sign Hagi for somewhere around £4m. Given his performances so far, it is likely that Gerrard would trigger that part of the deal.
With Jordan Campbell of the Athletic now reporting that Hagi is enjoying his time at Glasgow, is a piece of positive news for the Rangers faithful. Hopefully, Gerrard would be able to find a system to get the most out of him in the upcoming season. It remains to be seen though how keen Lazio are in the playmaker.
