Everton entertained Manchester United at Goodison Park earlier today hoping to continue their good form under Carlo Ancelotti. The Toffees made a dream start to the game when David De Gea’s clearance was chased down by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who inadvertently scored in the third minute, much to the delight of the home supporters. However, the Red Devils found an equaliser courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ goal in the 31st minute.
Both teams fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but failed to add to their goal tally. But it was a dramatic end to the game when Calvert-Lewin had his shot deflected into the Man United net. However, his goal was ruled out as off-side by VAR as Gylfi Sigurdsson was guilty of obstructing the sight of De Gea. Ancelotti received a red card after the full-time whistle, to sum up a bitter end to a dramatic day at Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Red Devils.
Everton Players Rated In Dramatic Draw Vs Manchester United
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6/10
The English keeper should have done better with his attempt to save Fernandes’ goal in the first half. However, he did pull off a crucial save later in the game to salvage a point for his side.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6/10
The Everton full-back did well to keep Anthony Martial in check during his time on the pitch. However, he suffered an unfortunate injury and had to be subbed out midway through the first half.
CB: Michael Keane – 7.5/10
He had a good game at the heart of the Toffees backline. Keane showed outstanding defensive awareness to keep the Man United forwards quiet throughout the 90 minutes.
CB: Mason Holgate – 8/10
The English centre-back put in a matured display at the back. He was composed on the ball and made some vital contributions in defence which will please Ancelotti.
LB: Leighton Baines – 7.5/10
The English left-back had to fill in the shoes of the injured Lucas Digne, and he passed the test with flying colours. He did all the little things right inside his own half and put in an energetic display going forward as well.
RM: Theo Walcott – 5/10
The ex-Arsenal winger made a decent start to the contest but ran out of gas after the half-time break. There was nothing to write home about his performance today.
CM: Tom Davies – 5.5/10
The Toffees midfielder worked hard to provide adequate cover for the backline, but he didn’t create anything of note going forward. He picked up a booking for a late challenge on Nemanja Matic.
CM: Andre Gomes – 7.5/10
The Portuguese midfield ace is slowly returning to form, and it showed in his performance today. He was exceptional with his build-up play and was at the heart of every good Everton move going forward.
LM: Gylfi Sigurðsson – 5.5/10
The Icelandic international got into some good positions but had nothing to show for his efforts. He was unfortunate to have a rattled the crossbar with his freekick attempt.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 8.5/10
The energetic forward was a constant menace for the Man United defenders as he scored one but saw another get ruled out in the dying embers of the game by VAR. It was a man of the match-worthy performance from him today.
ST: Richarlison – 7/10
The Brazilian attacker worked his socks off to help his teammates out at both ends of the pitch. However, he had no end-product to show for his efforts.
Substitutes:
RB: Djibril Sidibe – 6/10
He started the game slowly but put in a much-improved display in the second half.
RM: Bernard – 6/10
He got into some adventurous positions but was lacklustre in the final third.
ST: Moise Kean – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
