Dwight McNeil is currently one of the rising stars of Burnley. Sean Dyche recently claimed that Burnley would have to sell him one day in the future inevitably. However, Dyche insisted that they will do so only at the right price. Along with that, Dyche claimed that they are in a good financial position right now and only a head-turning figure would compel them to sell someone like McNeil.
Dyche talks about McNeil
The Burnley boss recently said (The Mirror), ”There’s a reality when players come in, particularly when we’ve developed them as lower-league players for less money or the likes of Dwight McNeil, At some point those players, not all of them, but some of them get to a point where the club will sell them.
“In the past, we always had to do certain things. Now we don’t have to do them because we’re in a very strong financial position. Keano (Michael Keane) went, and it was a case of we can’t refuse that money. Now we can. That’s the difference, although the basic principle is still there. If a player does so, so well and enough big interest comes from the top of the market, the chances are at some point that situation breaks and that player goes.”
What can be the right way forward for Dyche?
McNeil has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, and there is no doubt that the Manchester giants can blow Burnley out of the water with their offer. The young English winger has been one of the significant threats for Burnley while going forward as he has created five goals and scored two in 29 appearances in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old is also an England u-21 international. McNeil is known for his impressive crossing skills, and he is also a hard worker off the ball. However, we feel that he still needs to do a bit more before Manchester United can come out all guns blazing for him in the future.
Dyche is right that a point would arrive where the Clarets can’t keep their players, especially with the wages which a club like United can offer. Nevertheless, McNeil would be well suited if he stays at Turf Moor for now where he can get regular playing time. The Rochdale born winger is still relatively raw, and with more playing time and experience, he is going to improve further.
At Manchester United, expectations would be huge from the offset, and that can bog down young players who are trying to establish themselves. Dyche can probably keep him for another year or two before they can consider selling him. It remains to be seen though how concrete United’s interest are in the English winger.
