According to a recent report from the Mirror, Aston Villa along with Liverpool are leading the race to sign Werder Bremen’s attacker Milot Rashica. Both teams have also learned his price tag, and according to his agent Altin Lana, Rashica will cost £35m.
The 23-year-old is primarily a winger, but he can play through the middle as well. Rashica has been in impressive form in the Bundesliga this campaign as he has grabbed ten goals along with five assists in 24 appearances.
Aston Villa’s chances of signing an in form upcoming attacker like Rashica would only be possible if they manage to beat relegation. With the Premier League stopping due to Coronavirus pandemic, Villa would be uncertain about their future transfer targets. It could very much be that the club needs to prepare themselves for both scenarios and keep two lists of players of future transfer targets.
Werder Bremen themselves are struggling for their survival in the Bundesliga. Given their struggles, Rashica’s form is even more impressive as he has carried the team even when he isn’t getting much support around him. The 23-year-old joined the German outfit in 2018 from Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.
What Are Rashica’s Qualities?
The Kosovo international is a right-footed player who prefers to play as an inverted winger from the left flank, where he looks to drifts into central areas. The 23-year-old can go past defenders using his impressive pace and dribbling skills. Rashica can be very dangerous when faced by defenders in a one on situations as he likes to take them on.
Rashica is also known for his hard-working nature as he never allows the defender to settle. He also helps his side by tracking back. German heavyweight like Bayern Munich and Dortmund have also been linked with him in the past, and now Liverpool are also showing good interest. That should be a testament to his qualities with some top clubs vying for his signature.
Can Smith get him?
Even if Villa manage to stay up, they could find it hard to outbid a club like Liverpool. However, offering him regular game time is where they might triumph over Liverpool as the Reds are blessed with strong options on the flanks. If Rashica wants to play regular football, then Villa would probably be the right club for him at this stage of his career. However, for the Birmingham outfit to have any chance of signing him, they will first need to ensure safety in the top flight.
