The season might have reached a dead-end for now but the clubs across Europe would likely be planning and plotting for the upcoming season. Celtic are comfortably on the top of the table, and they should be able to see out the season with the title once the league resumes.
Celtic already offloaded the likes of Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan in January, and we are expecting Lennon to trim his squad a bit further in the summer. Here are three players who are likely to be offloaded from Parkhead in the summer according to us.
Craig Gordon
A very obvious pick as the veteran Scotsman has barely featured this season with the signing of Fraser Forster on loan. Scott Bain is also ahead of Gordon in the pecking order as Bain signed a new contract not too long ago. Gordon has already been linked with a return to Hearts.
The 37-year-old is anyway running out of contract in the summer, and there are no indications that he would sign an extension. Hence, a move away from Parkhead is very likely to happen.
Vakoun Issouf Bayo
The striker came in last January and has barely made an impact for Celtic in the past year. The striker has struggled for game time with Odsonne Edouard being in sublime form. Leigh Griffiths has also managed to find his lost touch, and Bayo seems nowhere in the picture at the moment. Lennon also went on to sign Patryk Klimala this January who is another talent waiting to get his chances upfront.
If Celtic get a decent offer, then we believe that they could look to sell Bayo in the summer. A loan exit is also on the cards as the 23-year-old is unlikely to make a breakthrough in Celtic’s lineup even next season.
Jonny Hayes
The versatile fullback has done well for the Hoops this season. Hayes has primarily been a winger for most of his career, but he has filled in as a fullback/wingback for Celtic this season. He has also played some crucial games for the Bhoys and has impressed with his commitment and endeavour. Hayes is in the last few months of his contract. He is already 32; hence, that could go against him.
The Irishman is still a handy squad player to have in the roster, but we think that he has run his course at Celtic Park. Lennon already has two left-sided fullbacks in Greg Taylor and Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo. Therefore Hayes’ time could be up at Parkhead even though he has made 26 appearances so far this season.
