Rangers were pegged back again in their title charge as they only managed to secure a goalless draw against Aberdeen at Ibrox. This weekend was not the first time that the Dons were able to blunt Rangers. Even last season, Derek McInnes’ men had given them a run for their money, especially in the cup games. The two teams also played out a draw in December when Aberdeen looked dead and buried after going two goals down, but they produced a comeback to earn a 2-2 draw.
The Bears are yet to produce a convincing performance after the winter break. Even when they have managed to get over the line, they had struggled to break down the opposition. One player who has mostly been ineffective since the break is Glen Kamara.
The Finnish midfielder is lucky to keep his place in the team right now as Ryan Jack is struggling through an injury. Scott Arfield is currently covering in the middle, and Kamara has kept his place in midfield so far. However, we believe that the former Arsenal youth prospect needs to be dropped and new arrival Ianis Hagi should get a start against Hibernian next.
Hagi talks about playing for Rangers
Hagi made his debut against Aberdeen, and he looked positive on the ball in whatever little time he got to play. The midfielder was asked whether he could provide that spark for Rangers which is missing to which he said (Daily Record)–
”Could I provide the spark he’s looking for? Yeah, I can show my qualities and help the team as much as I can. I’m the guy that creates so whenever I go on the field; I know what my job is. I have a lot of work to do, to create a chemistry with my new team-mates quickly. But hopefully, we’ll get that, and everything will go well. I feel fit and ready to start on Wednesday night, but that doesn’t depend on me, you have to ask the coach for his decision in the next game.”
Why Hagi needs to start
The Romanian played with a high tempo, and he was quick to move the ball. He also showed a lot of invention with his ball-distribution instead of taking a safe approach. We believe that Hagi should be starting in place of Kamara for the next game as that would also give a message to the Finnish player. Rangers need to resurrect the slide, and maybe the manager might want to continue with a settled midfield and give Hagi more time to settle in. However, Rangers need to be proactive; otherwise, they could see themselves faltering further in the title race.
