According to a recent report by The Sun, West Ham United are the frontrunners in the race to secure the services of Serhou Guirassy from SC Amiens this summer. The same source has also revealed that the Hammers have been monitoring the progress for the French striker for quite some time and are ready to strike a £20m deal soon. However, the East London outfit will face fierce competition from Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the ex-Lille forward (via The Sun).
Guirassy’s Challenging Season At Amiens So Far
The Arles-born talent has enjoyed a decent campaign in the Ligue 1 after putting in some eye-catching performances for Amiens so far. He has scored eight goals and provided one assist in 22 league matches for the French club this term. His goal-scoring contributions have given the Ligue 1 minnows a glimmer of hope in their battle for top-flight survival.
Luka Elsner’s team are currently sitting in the 19th place, five points away from safety in the league table, so Guirassy will be their best hope to pull off a fairytale comeback in the coming weeks. Despite getting limited support from his teammates in the attack, the French marksman has averaged 1.9 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1 (stats via whoscored).
Therefore, Guirassy deserves a lot of credit for not giving up as he continues to be a potent threat in the final third. The 23-year-old has also represented France at various youth levels but is yet to earn his first senior cap for his nation. A summer move to West Ham could give the talented centre-forward a chance to catch the attention of Didier Deschamps if he can continue to improve his overall productivity with each season.
What Will The Ligue 1 Hot Shot Bring To The London Stadium?
Guirassy has decent pace in his locker and can time his runs to perfection behind the opposition backline. He has incredible upper body strength to overpower the opposition and doesn’t mind working hard in holding the ball up to get others involved in the final third. However, the French youngster still has a lot to learn before he is ready to succeed at the highest level.
There is no doubt that Guirassy needs to improve his productivity which can only happen if he joins a team that could provide him with quality service. With creative assets like Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Robert Snodgrass and Manuel Lanzini playing behind him at the London Stadium, the French centre-forward can expect to get some decent scoring chances if he moves to the English capital in the off-season.
Sebastien Haller’s lack of goals this season could open up a first-team spot for Guirassy next season which should be enough leverage for David Moyes to lure him to East London this summer. The French frontman will thrive when playing as a centre-forward in Moyes’ 4-2-3-1 formation. He could also enjoy playing alongside someone like Michail Antonio if the Hammers boss decides to set-up with two strikers up top.
However, West Ham must retain their top-flight status if they are to stand a chance of acquiring Guirassy’s services before the start of the new campaign as it is unlikely that the player would want to play in the Championship, especially when other top clubs are showing interest in him as well.
