Wolverhampton Wanderers played out a 0-0 draw with Manchester United this evening, in a rather dull affair that would do very little to boost the confidence of either of these two sides.
Chances were far and few throughout the game, though Matt Doherty did manage to force a save off David de Gea around the quarter-hour mark. Both the teams found it difficult to break the deadlock, with Manchester United, in particular, struggling despite the inclusion of Bruno Fernandes.
Here are the Wolves players rated in their draw with the Red Devils.
Rui Patricio 8.5
Reacted well to Mason Greenwood’s effort, which took a deflection off Coady and Boly and might have found its way to the back of the net. Stepped up to the plate whenever he was needed. Definitely the best performer of the night.
Willy Boly 8
A commendable defensive display despite only returning to full fitness. This just goes to show the quality he really possesses.
Conor Coady 8
Kept the likes of Fernandes and Anthony Martial out of the game with his excellent defensive partnership with Boly and Saiss. Coady, in particular, played a huge role in cutting off United’s build-up in the final third.
Romain Saiss 7.5
Complemented the defensive efforts of Boly and Coady, ultimately helping Wolves retain a much-needed clean sheet.
Matt Doherty 7.5
Had a relatively easy outing, especially when it came to dealing with the wide threat of Andreas Pereira. Doherty’s consistency has been instrumental towards Wolves’ success this season.
Ruben Neves 8
Dictated the tempo of the game with his fantastic passing and excellent sense of positioning. It was his efforts that helped Wolves dominate the game, at times.
Joao Moutinho 8
Offered the additional support to Neves during possession phases. But, the veteran midfielder also showed incredible awareness and intelligence to cut off many passes from the Manchester United players in the middle. Age never seems to catch up with him.
Jonny 7.5
Wasn’t as impressive as Doherty on the opposite flank but the Portuguese was more active in the defensive side of the game, notably making eight tackles – more than anyone else on the pitch.
Adama Traore 8.5
Another top performance from the Wolves magician, whose sumptuous pass almost led to Jimenez opening the scoring. His trickery and pace caused a lot of problems for the Man United defence.
Raul Jimenez 7
A tedious game for the Mexican international, who kept up the pressure on the Man United defenders. But, he was looking exhausted during the final phase of the game before being subbed off late in the game.
Diogo Jota 6.5
Appeared a bit sloppy in front of goal and not among the best performers for Wolves in this fixture. He was rightly subbed in the 70th minute.
SUBSTITUTES
Pedro Neto 7
Replaced Jota during the final phase of the game and provided a bit of thrust going forward.
Daniel Podence 8
Despite appearing in 76th minute, Podence showed a lot of quality going forward. His ability to drift past defenders should catch the eye of many fans and experts this weekend.
Leander Dendoncker N/A
A late replacement for Jimenez as Nuno Espirito Santo opted for more defensive bodies.
