Manchester United will play hosts to Club Brugge at Old Trafford on Thursday night hoping to pick up a victory in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last 32 tie. The Red Devils managed to grind out a 1-1 draw away at Brugge in the previous week so they will be confident about their chances of progression into the next round of the competition.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to opt for a 3-4-2-1 formation and might make a few changes to his first-team for this midweek showdown versus Philippe Clement’s men.
3-4-2-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs Club Brugge
Defence
Sergio Romero will get another opportunity to impress in between the sticks when the Belgian giants come to town later this week. Solskjaer might opt to play a back three of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in this midweek encounter.
All three Man United defenders will look to maintain a high line so that they push up and feed balls into the front players. The Red Devils have kept five clean sheets in their last six matches but will have to keep Brugge’s Emmanuel Bonaventure in check if they want to improve their excellent defensive record on Thursday night.
Midfield
Brandon Williams will get the responsibility of operating down the left flank while Diogo Dalot fills in on the other side as the right wing-back. Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira will anchor the midfield as they focus on providing adequate cover to the Man United backline.
The creative duo of Bruno Fernandes and Juan Mata will get the freedom to play as the attacking midfielders as they look to cook up some decent goal-scoring chances in the final third.
Fred and Daniel James will have to settle for a spot on the bench, but they might get a chance to come on to make an impact in the game if required.
Attack
Anthony Martial will once again be obligated to lead the charge for the Red Devils down the middle. The French forward has managed to score in three consecutive matches against Chelsea, Brugge and Watford respectively, so he will be quietly confident about getting his name on the scoresheet in midweek.
Mason Greenwood will be available for selection on Solskjaer’s bench after his goal-scoring cameo versus the Hornets last weekend.
