According to the reports from El Desmarque, Real Madrid are willing to offer Isco as part of a plan to sign Chelsea’s midfielder N’Golo Kante. Florentino Perez is reportedly looking to reduce the price of the French midfielder by using Isco in the deal. Kante has emerged as one of the top targets for Zinedine Zidane.
Isco and Kante’s struggles in the last calendar year
Isco has started just eight games in the La Liga this season, and he has failed to fulfil his true potential. A few years back, the Spanish international was considered as one of the world’s best in midfield, but his career hasn’t kicked off as expected. Nevertheless, he is still just 27, and he can realistically make his name at Chelsea next.
N’golo Kante has been linked on and off with Real Madrid in the last few months. The Chelsea midfielder, like Isco, isn’t having the best of times in the previous year or so. Often cited as the best defensive midfielder of this generation, Kante has been handed a more attacking role, and it seems clear he isn’t as comfortable further up the pitch.
Real Madrid and Zidane are still on his heels, and they are willing to sacrifice Isco to bring in the French midfielder. The Galacticos have a brilliant defensive-minded midfielder in Casemiro already. So, it would be interesting to see what kind of role Zidane will use Kante in if Madrid manages to bring in the French midfield ace.
Should Zidane sign N’golo Kante?
Given his energy and stamina, both Sarri and Lampard have utilised him in a box to box role off late. But it is fair to say that he hasn’t been as effective as he can be when he starts in a deeper position. If Zidane is seeing him as a defensive midfielder, then the move for Kante would make sense. Otherwise, if the French manager is hoping to use the World Cup winner in a box to box role, we believe that sacrificing Isco wouldn’t be worth it.
Kante is known for his ability to breakdown play, and he caught the eye of everyone when he was at Leicester City. His energy and enthusiasm in the middle earned him the tag of ‘Duracell bunny’. The Chelsea man’s reading of the game and ability to make well-timed challenges has stood out in the past few years.
Kante is also effective in carrying the ball forward but lacks a bit of composure in picking the right pass in the attacking third. Nevertheless, if used in the right way, we believe that the 28-year-old would be a big hit at Real Madrid. With Isco’s future being uncertain, using him to bring in Kante wouldn’t be a bad ploy.
