According to a recent report by Brazilian outlet Gazeta Esportiva, Fluminense striker Marcos Paulo is seeking a summer move to Europe with Newcastle United, Juventus and Barcelona monitoring his development ahead of a potential move in the summer.
What Makes Marcos Paulo A Worthy Candidate To Lead The Line At Tyneside?
The speculation surrounding Paulo’s move to St. James’ Park seems premature at the moment and can easily be dismissed as ‘paper talk’. However, with Joelinton and Andy Carroll struggling to bang in the goals for the Magpies of late, one can’t help but wonder whether Steve Bruce will make it a priority to recruit a talented young striker during the summer transfer window.
The fact that Joelinton is a Brazilian forward opens up the possibility of an all-Portuguese speaking strike partnership at St. James’ Park next season. Both strikers speak the same language so they won’t have any problems striking up a good understanding with each other if Bruce can manage to lure the Fluminense ace to Tyneside during the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old is incredibly versatile as he can operate in any position across the frontline. Similar to Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, Paulo has decent pace under his belt and is full of tricks that allow him to be lethal in a 1v1 situation. The Portuguese starlet is physically strong and is a tireless worker in the opposition half, so he shouldn’t have too many problems integrating himself into English football.
Rafael Benitez is still held in high regard by the Toon Army for working miracles at Tyneside by making minor tweaks on a limited budget every year. Steve Bruce should opt for a similar strategy by continuing that trend even though Mike Ashley (as always) can be a hard man to bargain with, especially when it comes to player recruitment.
Will Paulo Be A Decent Fit For The Magpies?
The addition of Paulo will not only increase the overall depth of the Newcastle squad but will also help them cope with fixture congestion in the coming season. The Toon Army have seen a lot of their favourite first-team players miss some high-profile league matches due to injury.
Hence, it would be up to Bruce to strengthen Newcastle’s attack by signing a player like Paulo who can bring the goals back at Tyneside. However, there is no hiding from the fact that Paulo is still quite young and might need time to settle into life in England. At the same time, his track record has been decent at Fluminense, where he has registered six goals and six assists in 31 matches across all competitions.
