According to a recent report from the Chronicle, Newcastle United have scouted Fenerbahce’s striker Vedat Muriqi. The 25-year-old forward is a 23 times Kosovo international, and he joined Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce last summer only from Caykur Rizespor.
Muriqi has been in good form so far this campaign as he has bagged 13 goals and five assists in 22 appearances this season. Not too long ago, reports from Calciomercato had linked him to the likes of Manchester United, Lazio, Burnley, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and AS Monaco. Now the latest report conveys that even Newcastle United are keeping track of the striker.
Do The Magpies need new forwards?
Newcastle United have been solid defensively, but they have struggled to score goals upfront this season. A lot was expected out of Joelinton, but he has underperformed so far. However, we still believe that he can come good once he settles in at the Tyneside club. Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll and Yoshinori Muto are the other forward options for the Toon.
Joelinton, Gayle, Carroll and Muto have combined to score just one goal in the Premier League this season. Hence, it is understandable why Steve Bruce might be on the lookout for a new striker in the future. However, the club will probably have to part ways with a few of them as they already have four strikers vying for one spot in the team. The likes of Carroll and Gayle have struggled with injuries.
What will Vedat Muriqi bring to the table at Newcastle United?
Vedat Muriqi stands in at 6ft4, and he is understandably good in the air. The 25-year-old is more of a targetman kind of striker, and he is known for his hold up play. The Premier League is known for its physicality, and we believe that Muriqi should be able to handle it as that is one of his assets. He should fit into the Newcastle system well as they often need an out ball while defending in numbers and Muriqi can play with his back behind the goal. He can also get his teammates into the game.
However, Muriqi is yet to be tested in the top five leagues of the world, and there is no guarantee that he would be a prolific scorer for Newcastle United. Signing the Fenerbahce forward will come with a bit of risk as the forward hasn’t played much against tougher opponents.
The forward is in his prime, and if the Magpies can get him for a reasonable fee of around £10-15m, then he might be worth going after this summer.
