Celtic travelled to Fir Park to take on Motherwell, and they continued their march towards their 9th title with a thumping 4-0 win.
The game was end to end in the first half, and Motherwell carved out some decent chances for themselves. But it was Celtic who made the breakthrough early on as Edouard scored from close range after the ball fell kindly to him. Forster had to make one crucial save before half time to keep Celtic up.
The Hoops turned on the heat in the second half, and they created waves of attack. Leigh Griffiths got himself on the scoresheet after another good run from McGregor. Forrest then setup McGregor for Celtic’s third goal who finished brilliantly. Some of Celtic’s build-up play was breathtaking, and Edouard added the cherry on the top with his classic free-kick.
Here is how Lennon’s men fared on the night.
Fraser Forster 7
Stepped up again with a crucial save just before half time to keep Celtic ahead. Didn’t have to do much apart from that.
Jozo Simunovic 6
Had a few sloppy moments but got the job done at the back. Moved the ball forward well.
Christopher Jullien 6.5
Wasn’t tested much defensively. Did his job when called upon. Had one sloppy moment in possession.
Kristoffer Ajer 6
Aarons troubled him on a few occasions in the first half but had a comfortable game overall.
Greg Taylor 6.5
Worked hard and always looked to provide an attacking outlet. However, he could have been better with his crossing.
Callum McGregor 10
Played a big part in scoring the opener as he carried the ball well from midfield and then fed it to Edouard. Again did the same for Celtic’s second goal to set up Griffiths. Got himself on the scoresheet with a brilliant finish. Looked sharp, and some of his passing was impressive. Did everything which Lennon could have wanted from an attacking midfielder.
Scott Brown 6.5
Played the supporting role to the more attacking players. Nothing too eye-catching as he kept things simple and moved the ball well.
Olivier Ntcham 8
Linked up play well, and his movement looked sharp and proactive. Played some impressive diagonals and was involved in quite a few attacks. Missed an easy chance to get on the scoresheet.
James Forrest 7
Had to trackback often as a wing-back and worked hard overall. Setup McGregor’s goal brilliantly after some clever link-up play down the right.
Leigh Griffiths 7
Should have scored when Ntcham set him up with a good low cross in the first half. Looked much sharper in the second half and scored an easy goal. Hit the post through a header and linked up play well, especially in the second 45.
Odsonne Edouard 10
Just looks untouchable right now and almost everything came off from him today. His first goal was an easy one. Some of his link-up play was simply breathtaking. Then scored his second with a brilliant free-kick. Looks head and shoulders above everyone.
