According to a recent report by ElDesmarque, Manchester City are interested in bringing Real Madrid midfielder Isco to the Etihad Stadium but will face fierce competition from Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of the player. The same source has also revealed that the Galacticos are hoping to cash in on the Spaniard so that they can fund a move to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe at the end of this campaign.
Isco’s Recent Struggles In The La Liga
With Madrid willing to sell and Man City having the financial muscle to pull off such a transfer, Pep Guardiola might fancy signing a player of Isco’s qualities as he will be a perfect long-term replacement for David Silva, whose contract in England runs out next summer.
The ex-Malaga star has endured a frustrating season at the Spanish capital as he has struggled to earn a regular run of first-team opportunities. He has netted two goals in 20 appearances for Los Blancos this term on all fronts. The goals have dried up for Isco at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium while he has also struggled to create enough goal-scoring chances in the final third.
The 27-year-old seems like a player on the decline with Zinedine Zidane often opting to play him on the left side of his attack. However, the 38-time Spanish international has failed to make that position his own and has usually been rotated with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo in Zidane’s first-team.
Maybe, the time is right for Isco to make a fresh start away from the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. There is no denying that the Spaniard needs more playing time if he wants to get back to his best in the coming years. He is a serial winner who has faded away at Madrid after falling victim to several injuries over the past few seasons. However, Man City have been banned from all UEFA competitions for the next two seasons which means that they won’t have the lure of European football to convince Isco to join them this summer (via Sky Sports).
What Will Isco Add To Manchester City?
The Spanish midfield ace can still be a joy to watch when he is playing with confidence on the field. He boasts outstanding close control of the ball that allows him to complete some dangerous dribbles in the opposition half. Isco excels at interchanging passes with others and has the vision to find a killer pass inside the opposition penalty box.
It’s not every day that a player of Isco’s qualities become available in the market, so the Citizens will be foolish not to consider going in for him. Isco is flashy, skilful and confident in the way he operates in the number ten position or down the left flank that could make him a decent option for Pep Guardiola’s side next season. His strengths are quite similar to what David Silva has offered during his time at the Etihad. Hence, he will fit in well alongside Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne at the heart of the Man City midfield while Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden operate as the back-ups on the bench.
