According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Liverpool could face fierce competition from Manchester City and Chelsea in pursuit of Villarreal CF wide player Samuel Chukwueze this summer. France Football has also stated that the Reds failed with their £30m (€35m) bid to sign the La Liga winger last month with The Daily Mail now reporting that the Yellow Submarine value Chukwueze at around £60m.
Chukwueze’s Meteoric Rise To The Top Of Spanish Football
The Nigerian talent was a graduate of the Diamond Academy before Villarreal decided to take a chance on him back in 2017. He has gradually managed to establish himself as a first-team starter at the Estadio de la Cerámica and is currently playing some of the best football of his career.
The 20-year-old has put in some eye-catching displays for the Spanish outfit over the past couple of seasons. Chukwueze’s offensive contributions have not gone unnoticed and have even raised his stock in European football. He has scored four goals and provided four assists in 26 senior appearances for Villarreal this term across all competitions.
Chukwueze has averaged 0.7 tackles, 1.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored). Despite his tender age, the Super Eagles winger has managed to make a name for himself in Spain and is destined to become a future star in European football if he can continue to improve his game with each year.
What Will Samuel Chukwueze Bring To Liverpool?
Chukwueze has a terrific turn of pace which he can use to beat his marker out on the wide areas. He is also versatile enough to feature on the flanks or in the number ten position if required. The Nigerian prospect excels at making driving runs with the ball to get to the by-line. He also packs a lot of power with his shots from long range. However, the talented youngster needs to figure out a way to be prolific in the final third if he wants to break into the world-class bracket someday.
Should The Merseyside Giants Make A Move For Chukwueze?
Liverpool are currently well-stocked in the attacking department with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane carrying most of the goal-scoring workload up top. The trio of Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have also been a part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans of late.
With Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott providing even more cover in the offensive positions, Klopp does not need to add more competition especially when his entire squad is brimming with attacking talents.
