West Bromwich Albion faced off against Millwall at the Den earlier today hoping to pick up maximum points on the road. The Baggies began the match on the front foot and took the lead courtesy of Filip Krovinovic’s goal just three minutes before the half-time break.
The West Midlands giants kept the pressure on but struggled to kill the game off by scoring the decisive second goal. They finally made Millwall pay in the 84th minute when Dara O’Shea scored with his header from a tight angle. The match ended with the Baggies walking away with all three points from the Hawthorns.
Let’s take a look at how each West Brom player performed during the match against Millwall.
GK: Sam Johnstone – 7/10
He pulled off a routine save when he denied Wallace by parrying the ball away from danger in the first half. He did his job when called into action and secured a comfortable clean sheet.
RB: Dara O’Shea – 7/10
O’Shea managed to get a cheeky goal when he headed the ball home from a tight angle to wrap the points up for the Baggies.
CB: Semi Ajayi – 6/10
He missed a golden chance early on but was relatively calm when defending inside his own half. However, he was guilty of losing track of Wallace in the first half.
CB: Kyle Bartley – 7/10
Bartley commanded his own box with authority and conviction but spurned a decent chance to score at the other end. It was another solid performance from him today.
LB: Conor Townsend – 8/10
Townsend defended resolutely inside his own half and was a decent outlet for West Brom down the left flank.
CM: Jake Livermore – 9/10
Livermore worked his socks off in midfield and helped his side establish their dominance in midfield. He was at the heart of every good move West Brom managed to conjure up going forward and was a joy to watch.
CM: Romaine Sawyers – 6/10
He tried to do too much but ended up doing very little. He needs to figure out a way to be more inventive with his passes, especially in the final third.
RM: Matheus Pereira – 7/10
He came close to scoring the opener but struck the post with his attempt. Despite that miss, it was a good, energetic display from him today.
CAM: Filip Krovinovic – 9/10
He scored with a stunning long-range strike in the first half. Krovinovic was also quite active in the second 45 and was a constant menace in the opposition half.
LM: Callum Robinson – 8/10
Robinson put in an impressive showing as he made several good runs down the left but ran out of ideas towards the end of the game.
ST: Hal Robson-Kanu – 7/10
Robson-Kanu put in a classy display while leading the charge up top. He linked up play well with others around him and played an integral role behind the win.
Substitutes:
LM: Kamil Grosicki – 8/10
He came off the bench and bagged an assist.
RM: Matt Phillips – 7/10
He did not let Millwall settle into the game.
ST: Charlie Austin – N/A
He came off the bench to run the clock down for the home side.
