According to a recent report by The Daily Express, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is interested in securing the services of Olympique Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson but will face competition from West Ham, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton this summer. The same source goes on to state that the French midfield ace penned a new deal with the Ligue 1 giants back in December 2018 which could allow the player to part ways with the club at the end of this campaign. It is believed that the Toffees manager is eager to take advantage of the situation by luring the talented playmaker to Goodison Park ahead of the new season (via The Daily Express).
Sanson’s Eye-Catching Season In The French Top-Flight
The French playmaker has put in some memorable performances for Marseille this season. He is currently playing some of the best football of his career after registering four goals and four assists in 28 matches for the French outfit this term across all competitions. His attacking returns have been quite impressive considering that he is primarily a defensive midfielder.
Sanson has averaged 2.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.5 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1 so far (stats via whoscored). His stats do not lie and only highlights his growing influence in André Villas-Boas’ first-team. The Marseille midfielder has made over 200 appearances in the French top-flight, so this summer could be the perfect opportunity for him to move to the Premier League as he doesn’t have too much left to prove back in his homeland.
The 25-year-old has represented France at various youth levels but is yet to secure a senior cap for his nation. However, a high-profile switch to Goodison Park could give him the chance to catch the attention of France manager Didier Deschamps in the coming years.
What Will The French Midfield Ace Add To Ancelotti’s Side?
Sanson is a moderately paced midfielder who can make driving runs with the ball from midfield. He excels at interchanging passes with others around him and can pick out a killer ball in the final third. The Frenchman also packs a lot of power with his shots that makes him a potent goal-threat. He can also make some vital interceptions and crucial clearances for his side inside his own half.
Do The Toffees Need Sanson?
Everton will do well to land a midfielder of Sanson’s qualities as he will provide some much-needed competition for the likes of Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson for a midfield berth in the Toffees starting XI. Ancelotti could be the perfect man to get the best out of Sanson as evidenced by Fabian Ruiz’s incredible growth under the Italian tactician’s tutelage during his time with Napoli.
Sanson’s addition will also allow the Everton boss to be more flexible with his formation and tactics which could help the Merseyside club compete for major trophies in the coming years. Therefore, the Premier League outfit should undoubtedly make an offer to bring Sanson to Goodison Park in the off-season.
