European giants Manchester United dropped points for the third Premier League game in a row after they succumbed to a stale 0-0 draw against high-flying Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford. United started the game looking bright, and Bruno Fernandes was getting on the ball and making things happen as well. Despite the early pressure, they never really looked like breaking the Wolves defence down. This trend continued all through the second half, as lack of quality in the final third was Manchester United’s undoing yet again.
Manchester United Players Rated In Draw Vs Wolves
David De Gea – 7
The Spaniard had a comfortable evening against Nuno’s swift and dangerous counter-attacking system. He distributed the ball well too. Made an excellent save to stop a strong Raul Jimenez shot.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7
The full-back wasn’t at his best in an attacking sense early on but did well to come back in the second half. Defended well throughout the ninety and worked hard tracking the Wolves runners.
Harry Maguire – 6
The Englishman looked nervous at certain moments but had a rather comfortable evening overall. Did have trouble dealing with the powerful running of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.
Victor Lindelof – 6
Played a couple of loose passes here and there but an assured display at the back. He held his position well against the pacy Wolves attackers and never really got beaten one-on-one either.
Luke Shaw – 7
The Englishman was handed the difficult job of stopping the monster-truck of a footballer that is Adama Traore. Didn’t allow the speedster the space that he’s usually afforded down the flanks.
Fred – 6.5
The Brazilian did well to link-up play in the middle of the park and was a constant out-ball for the central defenders. Moved it around nicely but wasn’t able to create anything in the final third.
Bruno Fernandes – 6.5
The new signing showed signs of promise in the first half but slowly faded into the game. Had a couple of decent shots at goal in the second, but generally just an average display on his debut.
Daniel James – 5
The young Welshman had yet another poor outing at Old Trafford as he looks tired and out of ideas after getting into the final third. Played a couple of good crosses but never really threatened.
Juan Mata – 5.5
The Spanish veteran looked pedestrian on the ball, and never really looked like being the man to be able to find that killer final pass. Moved it around with purpose and had one decent shot at goal.
Andreas Pereira – 5.5
The midfield star was operating down the right flank for United tonight and did well for parts of the game. Got forward well at times, but didn’t offer any sort of real penetration in the final third.
Anthony Martial – 4
The French stand-in striker continues to disappoint upfront for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Couldn’t hold the ball up at all and gave possession away cheaply on multiple occasions. Abysmal.
Substitutes
Mason Greenwood – 5
The youngster tried to make himself a nuisance in the Wolves box late on, but the likes of Conor Coady and Willy Boly were at the top of their games tonight.
Jesse Lingard – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
Diogo Dalot – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
