According to Sassuolo president Giovanni Carnevali, Chelsea are exploring the possibility of re-signing their former winger Jeremie Boga at the end of this campaign (via Goal.com). The Serie A outfit managed to bring the Ivorian wide player to Italy for just €3.5m (£3m) back in 2018. Still, it is understood that the Pensioners included a buy-back clause in that deal so they could potentially re-sign him next summer (via The Independent).
Sassuolo president Carnevali recently addressed the winger’s future and said (via Goal.com), “Chelsea can redeem him in June.
“We have a great relationship with the club and we already met them before Christmas – also for other business.
“We like to have what we have with Barcelona, to have a collaborative relationship.
“They can take him back but we can also re-sign him, everything is open.”
Boga’s Impressive Spell At Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore
Boga has enjoyed an impressive campaign in the Italian top-flight after putting in some memorable performances under Roberto De Zerbi’s tutelage. He has scored six goals and provided three assists in 22 appearances for the Serie A outfit this term across all competitions.
Boga has averaged 1.8 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 4.3 dribbles per game in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored). The Marseille-born talent has also earned one senior cap for the Ivory Coast national team after initially representing France at the Under-19 level.
What Are The Ivory Coast International’s Best Attributes?
Boga has decent pace in his locker and can make some darting runs down the left flank. He boasts outstanding ball control and is an agile winger who is not afraid to express himself in the final third. The Ivorian youngster also packs a lot of power with his shots at goal.
Should The Pensioners Re-Sign Boga Next Summer?
Frank Lampard can undeniably benefit from bringing Boga back to Stamford Bridge next summer. The 23-year-old has the makings of an exciting, young winger who will add a bit more creativity and guile down the wide areas.
The Pensioners should consider activating Boga’s buy-back clause as it makes a lot of sense for them to bolster their attacking options ahead of what could be another gruelling campaign in the English top-flight.
