Premier League strugglers West Ham United will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the league when they travel to Anfield to take on runaway leaders Liverpool on Monday night. The Reds have been in dominant form in the league ever since the opening week of the campaign, and remain unbeaten.
The Hammers recently gave the first-team manager’s job to former Manchester United and Everton gaffer David Moyes. Although the experienced Premier League manager got off to a flying start against Bournemouth in his first league encounter, they’re yet to pick up three points since that victory. Their recent defeat to champions Manchester City showed them in a terrible light, and the Hammers fans will be hoping for a reaction from some of the players.
Team News
Ryan Fredericks had to be taken off prematurely in the fixture against City owing to an unfortunate shoulder injury. Andriy Yarmolenko continues his spell on the sidelines, currently treating his thigh problem. Jack Wilshere is another experienced head who’s likely to miss this tie.
Predicted 3-5-2 West Ham United Lineup Vs Liverpool
Formation: 3-5-2
Defence
The injury picked up by first-choice shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianski showcased just how important a player he is to this West Ham team. His return has come as a massive boon to David Moyes, as his team had been struggling on either end of the field up until that point. In front of him, expect to see the familiar centre-half trio of Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell.
Midfield
Czech international midfield star Tomas Soucek didn’t have the greatest of outings against City in midweek but is likely to retain his place in the Hammers’ first-team. He is set to be partnered in the middle of the park by West Ham’s usual suspects Mark Noble and Declan Rice. Former Manchester City full-back Pablo Zabaleta could be forced back into the team to replace the injured Fredericks, while Arthur Masuaku should continue in the left wingback slot.
Attack
New signing Jarrod Bowen was unable to get match-ready in time for the fixture against City and was hence forced to wait to make his West Ham debut. The former Hull City man is likely to get his first-ever start against Liverpool. Alongside this exciting new acquisition, expect David Moyes to deploy Michael Antonio instead of Sebastian Haller, with the Frenchman likely to drop down to the bench.
