According to a recent report by The Sun, Barcelona have joined the chase to secure the signature of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish next summer. However, the reigning La Liga champions will face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Manchester United in pursuit of the Villa skipper at the end of this campaign (via The Sun).
Jack Grealish’s Spectacular Season In The Premier League Thus Far
Grealish has performed at a high level all season at the heart of the Villans midfield and has been one of Dean Smith’s standout performers at the West Midlands club so far. The 24-year-old has featured in 27 matches for Villa this term, scoring nine goals while creating seven assists in all competitions. The English midfield ace has averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 2.2 shots, 2.7 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per game in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The 24-year-old began his international career playing for the Republic of Ireland at various youth levels but has since switched his allegiance to England after playing in seven matches for them at the Under-21 level. Barca will do well to lure him away from Villa Park before the UEFA Euro 2020 kicks off later this summer as his market value could skyrocket if Gareth Southgate picks him to start for the Three Lions in this summer’s competition.
However, the Birmingham-born talent has still not proven his worth in Europe, so the jury is still out on whether he can handle the expectations of playing at the top level every week.
What Will The Aston Villa Captain Add To Setien’s Side?
Grealish is one of the hardest workers in the Villa midfield and can also operate on the flanks if required. His high work-rate, coupled with his versatility, makes him a valuable asset at Deam Smith’s disposal. In reality, it won’t be easy for the Catalan outfit to convince the Villans to part ways with their prized asset next summer.
Is Grealish The Right Option For The Catalan Giants?
Quique Setien is in dire need of strengthening his attacking options before the start of the next campaign. With most of his first-team stars such as Lionel Messi, Arturo Vidal, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic edging closer towards the twilight years of their playing career, an injection of a young and hungry midfielder like Grealish will be a welcome addition to their squad.
Therefore, the Premier League playmaker will be an excellent option for the La Liga giants this summer as he has the potential to add a lot of goals and assists to Setien’s midfield next season.
