Werder Bremen star Milot Rashica had emerged as one of the options for Aston Villa in the January transfer window as reported by German media outlet Kreis Zeitung. However, Villa went on to sign Mbwanna Samatta from Genk and Borja Baston on a free transfer to bulk up the forward options.
Rashica is primarily a winger, but he can feature down the middle as a striker as well. The 23-year-old has been in impressive form for Bremen as he has bagged ten goals and four assists in 21 appearances this season.
Agent talks about Rashica’s future
Recently Rashica’s agent claimed (EN24) that talks have begun with potential suitors for the Kosovo international. Borussia Dortmund are reportedly looking at the player, and even Bayern Munich are keeping track of his progress.
Rashica’s agent recently confirmed that he had held talks regarding a summer move. He said, ”You have to be prepared, prepared for all scenarios. There are interested clubs and conversations have begun. I do not name any names.”
Why are Villa unlikely to be in talks with him right now?
The agent didn’t come up with a club’s name. However, it’s tough to see Aston Villa as that club. The Birmingham based outfit are currently fighting a relegation battle, and the club’s transfer plans are likely to depend on which division they would be playing in the next season.
With that uncertainty, it’s unlikely that a player like Rashica would be talking with Villa over a summer move right now. Moreover, reports earlier claimed that Bremen are looking to get around £33m for him. With that kind of price tag involved, Villa would have to be in the Premier League to have a chance of bringing in the versatile winger.
What are Rashica’s qualities?
Rashica is a right-footed player who likes to play on the left and drifts into central areas from there. The 23-year-old is blessed with blistering pace, and he is also capable of producing a brilliant moment of skill which allows him to go past players in one on one situations.
The forward is also known for his high work rate and pressing from the top, and teams like Dortmund and Bayern noticing him is a testament to his talent. Rashica’s versatility to play in various roles will also come in handy.
Villa will have their task cut out even if they stay up in the Premier League. Nevertheless, they should keep track of the player and maybe a chance to play regular football can tempt him to play his trade at Villa Park.
