According to a recent report by The Daily Express, Premier League high-flyers Wolverhampton Wanderers are suggested to be in the market for a couple of winter acquisitions, with the names of Olympiacos Star Daniel Podence and former Nottingham Forest man Nelson Oliveira being linked.
The report suggests that Nuno is keen on strengthening his squad this January and that they’ve already secured the services of Barcelona SC youngster Leonardo Campana. Spoiler alert: The transfer has already been made official by Wolves.
It has been reported that the Wolves scouts identified Daniel Podence as a potential talent during his Champions League encounter against Tottenham this season, where the youngster gave the Spurs back-line a proper run-around. Also, the manager is claimed to be a follower of former Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira and is said to believe that the big attacker is the right man to provide Raul Jimenez with competition for the main striker’s role.
What Areas Of The Pitch Does Nuno Seem To Be Targeting?
The sudden surge in quality from players like Pedro Neto and Adama Traore could come back to haunt Wolves in the long-run owing to prying suitors. This could be one of the main reasons that the Portuguese manager seems to be targeting attacking players. While Raul Jimenez has been able to deliver consistently, none of the other stars have quite stepped up to the plate when required.
The addition of some top quality attackers would benefit not only the team in general but also the players who are already in the side. Motivation levels can be a significant factor in the world of Premier League football, and bringing in a player of Podence’s quality could be exactly what Nuno needs to do to get the best out of players like Diogo Jota and Adama Traore.
Assessing the two Portuguese stars:
Daniel Podence
The Olympiacos man is originally a left-winger but is more than capable of operating anywhere across the front-line. The former Sporting CP attacker has picked up three goals and four assists in the league this season and continues to be one of their deadliest players as well. He is an adept dribbler of the ball and tends to be extremely smart with his forward passing as well.
Nelson Oliveira
The 28-year-old is no stranger to the English game, having played for clubs like Nottingham Forest, Norwich City and Swansea City throughout his five-year spell in the UK. Having most recently been released by the Canaries last summer, he went on to join AEK Athens. The Portuguese international has scored nine goals in the Greek league this season, and would indeed be a good backup option to have for Raul Jimenez.
