Rangers are two points behind Celtic, but they have a game in hand over their arch-rivals. After their crucial win against the Hoops, confidence must be running high in the Rangers camp. Gerrard’s men will resume their title charge after the break when they take on St. Mirren in a mid-week encounter at Ibrox.
St. Mirren are currently languishing on the 10th spot on the table. Rangers faced stiff competition in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but a Borna Barisic free-kick gave them a 1-0 win. Since then, Gerrard’s men have stepped up this season, and they would look for a much more comfortable evening this time around.
Team News: Captain James Tavernier is going to be out for a few weeks with an injury. Centre back Filip Helander is also expected to miss out. Star striker Alfredo Morelos is suspended for this encounter after Rangers lost their appeal.
Rangers Predicted Lineup vs St. Mirren
Formation (4-3-3)
Defence
The experienced Allan McGregor is set to continue in goal for the Bears. Connor Goldson has emerged as the mainstay at the back under Gerrard, and he is likely to keep his place in defence.
He is expected to be partnered by Nikola Katic. Nathan Patterson got his debut against Stranraer FC, but we believe that Gerrard might prefer the experience of Jon Flanagan at right back in the league encounter. Borna Barisic will likely continue in his usual left-back role.
Midfield
Steven Davis will be expected to play in the deeper role in midfield. Rangers are likely to dominate possession and Davis would look to control the game from deep areas. Ryan Jack is a nailed-on starter in midfield. The other midfield spot could go to Glen Kamara even though Scott Arfield is also a plausible option. Kamara wasn’t even involved in the bench against Stranraer, but he is expected to be available and will start for us in the middle.
Attack
Ryan Kent will look to make an impact from the left-wing. Joe Aribo has managed to show what he is really capable of in his new role on the right flank. His ability to go past defenders and impressive close-quarter control has stood out.
Jermain Defoe doesn’t bring the same intensity of Alfredo Morelos up front, but he still remains a clinical option to lead the line given his vast experience. The veteran Englishman will get another chance to start as the Colombian serves his suspension.
