According to a recent report by Football.London, West Ham United are considering making a move for Slavia Prague midfielder Tomas Soucek. The same source has also revealed that the Czech Republic international is currently being valued at around €25m by his parent club, but it is believed that the Hammers could land him for half that amount if a deal can be struck.
It has also been suggested that both clubs are confident about agreeing on an initial loan deal with the option to sign the player permanently next summer, but nothing is yet to be finalised.
Soucek’s Incredible Season In European Football
The Havlickuv Brod-born talent has enjoyed a brilliant campaign at Prague this season after putting in several match-winning displays for the Czech outfit across all competitions. He has scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 26 appearances for Slavia this term on all fronts. Soucek has been in a rich vein of form in the UEFA Champions League despite his side only managing to crash out in the group stages of the competition. The defensive midfielder has averaged 2.5 tackles, 2.5 interceptions, 2.8 clearances, 2.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the six European matches he has featured so far (stats via whoscored).
Soucek has also secured 25 senior caps for the Czech Republic national side and has registered three goals for his country in the process.
What Will The Czech Sensation Bring To The London Stadium?
Soucek is a powerhouse in midfield who can work his socks off for the benefit of his team. He is also versatile enough to fill in as a centre-back if needed. The European sensation excels at making vital interceptions for his side and can also clear his lines when required.
What makes the Czech prospect such a highly sought after talent is his ability to score goals going forward. He has banged in 12 goals in this campaign which is a remarkable feat for a defensive midfielder.
Recruiting a player of Soucek’s quality will be a massive coup for the Hammers if they can find a way to lure him away from his homeland. He will not only add a lot of bite and steel to the West Ham midfield but will also increase competition for places within their squad. The fact that Mark Noble is currently on the wrong side of his 30s suggests that Soucek could be a long-term replacement for the English workhorse at the London Stadium.
