Newcastle United have long been linked with Hull City’s star winger Jarrod Bowen. The Magpies made a £12m (Yorkshire Evening Post) approach for the winger which fell short of Hull City’s valuation. West Brom and Leeds United have also been linked (Birmingham Mail), but it seems like the English ace is likely to stay put at KCOM Stadium.
McCann has his say on Bowen’s future
Grant McCann indicated that he had a talk with Bowen who said that he wants to stay with the Tigers. However, the Hull City manager went on to share that things could change if the club receives a decent offer for Bowen. McCann recently said, ”What will be, will be and we’re comfortable either way. Jarrod loves playing for Hull, and he showed that. He’s said to me on numerous occasions that he wants to stay here and have that promotion push, but I’m a realist, and I know if someone comes in with money that the club can’t turn down then we’ll have to think about it.”
It remains to be seen whether the Magpies would make any late approach for the winger or not. Various reports have mentioned that Hull City are demanding around £20m for Bowen.
Should United look to pay that kind of fee?
Newcastle United have punched above their weight for most parts this season, and they sit in a comfortable 14th spot on the table, seven points above the relegation zone. The Magpies often take a defensive approach, and Bruce has built this team on a strong defensive setup. His approach isn’t too dissimilar to what Rafael Benitez did at the club during his tenure. However, the club should be on the lookout to bring in more attacking options at the club.
Bowen is one of the hottest talents in the Championship at the moment. The winger has 17 goals already this season to go with his three assists. The 23-year-old also managed to make it into the Championship’s team of the year last season. His goal scoring exploits are more impressive, given the fact that Hull City haven’t done well as a team in the past few years.
We believe that Bowen is worth going after for £20m. The winger is known for providing consistent attacking returns. He is not someone who would just catch the eye but with no end product. Bowen is in the final few months of his contract, so it is understandable why the Magpies might not want to pay that much for him in this window.
However, Hull City does have an option to extend for another year. McCann indicated that a top offer could still change things, and the Toon should look to get this deal done to bolster their attacking options.
