According to the reports from Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are linked with a move for Watford’s striker Andre Gray. However, the new Watford boss Nigel Pearson believes that Gray is still part of his plans this season. The Whites have struggled to replace Eddie Nketiah so far, and the club is still on the lookout for a new striker.
Nigel Pearson has his say on Gray’s future
Pearson recently talked about Gray and said, “I spoke with Andre, and he is very much a part of what we are trying to do here. I don’t have any message for anybody but us. It is more for our own players, and that is I am pretty happy with what we already have. I think I have already said over the last week or so that if we add to the squad, it will be to strengthen it.”
Watford have been in tremendous form since Pearson took over. The Hornets looked like they were gone for all money as they were languishing on the bottom spot for the most of the season. However, they have now climbed to the 17th spot after three wins on the spin.
Gray has made 18 appearances in the Premier League this season, but he has started only seven times so far. The experienced Troy Deeney is still going strong upfront, and Gray has played just 11 minutes of football in the last five Premier League games.
Will Gray be a good addition at Elland Road?
Gray is known for his quick acceleration and physicality. He is also known as a hard worker off the ball. The 28-year-old is a proven player at the Championship level as he has 41 goals and 18 assists to his name in 88 Championship appearances. Gray has thrived for the likes of Luton Town, Brentford and Burnley before and he would be an excellent addition at Elland Road.
However, we believe that his wages are likely going to be a significant issue for the Whites. Moreover, Pearson still wants to keep hold of him at the club.
Bielsa recently revealed that the Whites would not sign anyone just for the sake of it. The club is on the lookout for a striker who would suit them well and would be a feasible option financially as well. The Whites have suffered one blow after another in their pursuit of strikers so far, and the latest update from Pearson is another setback for the Whites.
