According to the reports from the Mirror, Leeds United linked striker, Billy Sharp has made it clear to Chris Wilder that he wants to stick around with Sheffield United until the end of the season. With the Whites losing Eddie Nketiah, United are on the lookout for a new striker.
Sharp is being seen as a plausible option by the Whites. The striker had spent one season with the Yorkshire outfit where he managed five goals for them. Sharp has played a stellar role for the Blades over the years to get them to the Premier League.
However, the striker is firmly down the pecking order at this point. Chris Wilder has the likes of Oliver McBurnie, David McGoldrick and Lys Mousset who have done well while leading the line. Sharp has only started just one game in the Premier League this season.
Wilder talks about Sharp’s future
Recently Wilder spoke about the prospect of Sharp leaving the club on loan in January. He maintained that he wouldn’t stand in the striker’s way if he wants to go in search of more game time. The Sheffield boss had said (Yorkshire Evening Post), ”I’ve always been very consistent with the message that, until Billy comes to me and says he has to play regular first-team football, then he’ll be here. And he hasn’t. We’ve had calls of people and enquiries. I’m open and honest. I’ve told Billy this club has come in for him and that club comes in for him.”
However, now reporting from Mirror mentions that Sharp has made it clear to his manager that he isn’t interested in leaving this month. This would undoubtedly be a blow for Leeds United as the 33-year-old would have been a decent short term solution for Bielsa.
What now for Bielsa?
Sharp had managed 24 goals and four assists last season to help the Blades get to the English top flight. He is a proven player at the Championship level, and he would have been a handy backup to Patrick Bamford for the rest of the season.
His experience and finishing skills would have made him an ideal player for United. Leeds United are also strongly interested in Che Adams and if the Whites get him then losing out on Sharp wouldn’t be a blow for the Whites. But as things stand, Leeds United might have to look somewhere else as Southampton are seemingly keen to keep hold of Adams.
